Quote from today's WT study (Aug 15th issue, pg 30):

"When called upon to judge, how vital it is that elders not let themselves be deceived by falsehood, clever tactics, or rumors! God's appointed Judge, Jesus Christ, judges righteously. He does not "judge by any mere appearance to his eyes, nor reprove simply according to the thing heard by his ears. (Isa. 11:3,4) Rather Jesus is guided by Jehovah's spirit. Christian elders likewise have the benefit of being guided by God's holy spirit."

If guided by God's holy spirit, how could they possibly be deceived by anything or anyone?

How can they have it both ways? In the same freaking paragraph?

I wonder ... could Jesus be deceived by falsehood? All judging has been given to the Son ... did he pass that on to JW elders? Can the JW elders by means of God's Spirit also search the heart and kidneys like Jehovah and Jesus can do?

Perhaps "the holy spirit" is deceiving by "falsehood, clever tactics, or rumors"?

Most do not see the doublespeak. They see this as meaning they should obey the direction of elders because they have God's spirit, but that when it doesn't work out for the elders, it is because the elder was deceived by [falsehood, clever tactics, or rumors] Satan.

Still, they think it will work out for the member that obeys because Jehovah will protect him in the long run from such foulups.

Holy Spirit will guide and direct you......but don't be deceived.....

If a person can be deceived on their own.....how is the HS helping if they can still be deceived with it?

    WHAT AN IGNORANT STATEMENT.

That "Holy Spirit" thing is really undependable. Too bad God couldn't give them an ipad or something.

If they guided by holy spirit then why do they need to keep records? or 40 year old love letters? They think God can not remember?

I remember this part actually. The lil part here you quoted doesn't show it. They were saying how when you go to an elder to complain / tattle-tell* then the brother is suppose to hear both sides then the brother should pray on it and he will be guided by God's holy spirit from there. Which I suppose means that from there, whatever verdict the brother comes to, you have to accept because he was guided by the holy spirit. The first and the end and the second paragraph (2 parter) sort of brought it all together. Maybe this was because they want to buy time for the elders and also make decisions seem sound. When brought an issue the elder doesn't have to give you an answer right away and shouldn't take sides either. Instead go back to who ever it is that ... I mean pray to Jehovah and get an answer on the subject. Then come back to you with that answer. Since the answer came about through Jehovah's spirit no further questions should happen and you need to just accept what you get cause right ... right its through Jehovah's spirt that this conclusion came.

They used 1 Cor 8:2 to explain why a brother may at first be deceived. This is why they must consult the ... I mean pray to Jehovah for guidance first.

    :)

*(which they explained later to not be tattle telling if you saw someone doing something wrong and you confronted them, if they dont tell on themselves then the scriptures says you are doing wrong also if you do not report it..... any way it goes if you tell on them thats still tattle telling!)

    tat·tle·tale /'tatl?tal/
    Noun:
A person, esp. a child, who reveals secrets or informs on others; a telltale.
