FRAZER - "The Golden Bough": Anyone else have a "lightbulb" moment from it?

    I read it when a true blue witless. It brought on a real crisis of faith. My religion was derived from fertility and mystery cults? NEVER!! I studied harder did more preaching prayed hard. Then got kicked in the face by the elders. (Wasn't doing enough - I just didn't brag about it ; that was how I was brung up.)

    That aside - if you have read it did it give you any meaningful insight?

    Yeah, that and Bible Myths by Douane both about a century old now made the point that there are too many points of connection between the so-called inspired doctrine and earlier 'pagan' rite and cult to dismiss. Mind you the connections are likely less direct than was assumed back then but the basic lesson learned is that cultures and religions are built upon the past.
