One More Try...Don't know what happened to my last try

A friend of mine has a detector. For the most part it has been a disapointment to him.The biggest thing he found was bottle caps followed by screws or bolts.

If I was using a metal detector I would like to try in in places where there was historical events. I think of Barkerville or the Arrow Lakes as being good places to try.

Have you ever watched "Gold Trails and Ghost Towns" on CHBC? Mike Roberts and Bill Barlee explore a lot of what made B.C. rich and famous. I would like to explore places like Sandon and find treasures from the "1800"s The Fraser Valley has a few out of the way places worth exploring also. That could get me excited.Good Luck to You...

Treasure hunting is cool. I can remember 25 years ago playing baseball with the worldly kids from the neighborhood and some dude would be out with his metal detector. Just don't get it near me. I go through municipal buildings or airports setting off their detectors because my chest is full of stainless steel after heart surgery 3 years ago. ;)

very nice, orbi. my grandpa loved metal detectors and took me on treasure hunts when i was little. we would go to the beach and he would wave the device over the sand...whenever it would beep i would help him dig up...usually a tin can. but it was loads of fun and i was always excited to be invited to tag along.

also, here is some inspiration for you and your treasure hunting...my grandpy heard a rumor of buried gold coins on an old abandon property from post-war great depression era. He searched the property and found ten of them!! it was his biggest succes. he died three years ago but those metal detecting adventures made for good memories. have fun. :o)

I think there were a few old settlements by Harrison Lake. Look along hwy 7 rather than hwy 1. I would try to get a book about the history of the Fraser Valley or do an online search. I could see you having fun doing that and also learn a little more about the area.

Last fall, my neighbor had to dig up his well. Big problem, there were no ground plans of the house available to indicate where the well would be. So we borrowed a metal detector. We searched the entire lawn (two acres), and put little stakes in the ground wherever the detector went off. We ended up with a whole bunch of stakes all over the lawn and started digging. Sometimes we'd find scraps of something, like caps and such, and we'd go to a different spot and start digging again. We dug for two weeks and ended up with a lot of three foot deep holes in the lawn. We finally realized that this was not going to work. Then we bought welling rods. If anyone is familiar with welling rods, you'll know that searching for water under the ground with welling rods it is called "witching" and that only a certain kind of people have the ability to do this. My neighbor walked all over the lawn with the welling rods, but nothing happened. To my utmost surprise, when I tried it, it worked. I was able to find the water line and follow it to the well with the welling rods. At that time, I didn't think much of it. All excited, I told my JW friends, (I was still going to the KH back then). OH MY Goodness, they made a huge deal out of it, as if I had gone to bed with the devil himself.
