August 14, 2001 -- A Bronx hit man was back in New York yesterday to face murder charges for killing a man who refused to divorce his wife, police said.
Hector Rodriguez, 26, was arrested in Florida Thursday, and police brought him back to New York Sunday night.
Cops say his client, Bronx school secretary Gloria Rodriguez, hired him to rub out her 37-year-old husband, William.
Cops nabbed Hector, who is not related to the couple, when he went to pick up the remainder of his fee at a Western Union office in Spring Hill, Fla., near Tampa, where he fled after the murder, investigators said.
The hit man ambushed William on a Bronx street near his home Aug. 6, police said.
Cops said Gloria met Hector about 18 months ago and they dated briefly. Several weeks ago, she called him and offered to pay him to kill her husband because he was a devout Jehovah's Witness who did not believe in divorce, investigators said.
She allegedly gave Hector $1,000 up front and he was set to collect $3,000 to $6,000 more when he was arrested.
The two have been charged with first- and second-degree murder, manslaughter, conspiracy and criminal facilitation.
