This huge crop circle or circles, just appeared suddenly in the night 13 August. A perfect geometrical design.

Their origin and purpose remains a complete mystery. Despite attempts to dismiss them as the work of human artists, some believe the evidence points to a much stranger explanation. Wherever they come from, these spectacular designs often display very clear symbolism, scientific, esoteric and astronomical, and demonstrate some extraordinary unexplained effects.
There has been intense debate over the circles' origins. Some believe they are communications from Extra-Terrestrials, pointing to the many sightings and videos of aerial phenomena seen in connection with formations. Others feel the lights may be the properties of an unknown natural energy which produces complex ground patterns. Others still have cited everything from Mother Earth to nature spirits being responsible. Experiments with the power of the mind have suggested it is possible to influence the creation of certain shapes, leading some to believe psychic forces are involved.
Some of the patterns have shown breathtaking symbolic qualities. In 1994, several galaxy-shaped glyphs displayed a conjunction of planets over the star constellation Cetus as it would be in April 2000, and in 1995 an accurate diagram of the Earth's inner solar system was discovered. Some shapes appear to denote dates and astronomical conjunctions, but others remain obscure and are open to interpretation, seeming to refelct multi-cultural symbolism.
Work by laboratories on circle-affected crop has shown biological changes taking place at a cellular level, suggesting the involvement of microwave energy. Other physical tests have shown anomalies not yet replicated by man-made experiments. These, together with the lights, eye-witness accounts, reports of malfunctioning electronic equipment and health effects on people visiting circles, suggest the phenomenon should be looked at more closely.
Whether the crop formations are warnings, messages of greeting or abstract doodles remains to be seen. As they amaze and frustrate in equal measure with their stunning beauty, no doubt they will continue to create further controversy.

    Oh I LOVE crop circles.

I especially love how the crop circle nuts went on believing it was some weird-ass phenomena or aliens even AFTER a group of people who had been merrily creating crop circles as a hobby for years went public and showed how they made them.

As for geometric perfection... it ISN'T. Look at the gaps between the circles. Or rather, the fact sometimes it's edges touching, sometimes a gap, sometimes the circles intersect. The angle of the 'child' circles as they fall away from their parent also varies.

Just the sort of errors you get from 'plank, peg and string', the usualmethod of making them.

That is one of the prettier crop circles I have ever seen. But it is true, that one is not perfect like so many others. It is man made but very nice.

So, the question seems to be: Who has way too much time on their hands? Humans or aliens?

I like Douglas Adams'postulation that alien sightings were the equivalent of boozed-up kids hot-rodding their dad's saucer and scaring the shit out of some pig farmer in Arkansas, dressing up and going 'gleep, gleep' in the knowledge no-one would ever believe the guy.

So basically close-encounters and crop circles are the product of bored teenage aliens.

It seems very reasonable, as I still figure the same rule applies to aliens as to god. If they wanted to make contact they would do so clearly. Perhaps NOT landing on the White House lawn, as just as we on Earth are searching for intelligent life, I'm sure aliens are too, and they'd know better than searching there, but they'd make it obvious they wanted to talk.

All the other sightings and abductions seem to stress credulity too much.

If someone can traverse interstellar space, it's reasonable to assume they would be able to observe unobserved.

Maybe alien abductees are the equivalent of groggy lions wearing radio collars, but I don't think so.

I do think there's intelligent life out there, it's just we're too dull to bother with, or light speed is an absolute limit, or (interestingly) our solar system might be one of the first to develop intelligent life in this galaxy (based on concentration of heavy elements increasing over time, and there being an idea of a threshold below which intelligent life is unlikely to develop.

Hi Abaddon. Nice comment. It looks like you have read far to many alien stories. Here is just another from Dulce, New Mexico

I have seen lots of crop circles. They all have on thing in common, tractor tyre marks.

Now, show me a pic of crop circles without tractor marks for people to walk up without disturbing the crops, and I could be convinced.....
