I'm fairly new to the board, so I apologize in advance if this subject has previously been beaten to death.
What do you think about historical individuals in Bible history and the their (in some cases) excessively non-monogamous marriages? Some of these individuals continued to be favorable in God's eyes, such as Abraham. David and Solomon also practiced polygamy.
According to WTS belief, God "allowed" this to take place either for political reasons or for the propogation of the human race. Either way though, is this in your opinion an example of God exhibiting flexibility of morality and standards?
Actually, I think all the multiple concubinage took place in a location and throughout an age and stage of social development that was totally patriarchal and in which women were chattel, as in Abraham being Sarah's "husbandly OWNER." And, of course, to justify it, the God - which they had made in their own image - was all for it.
Many things are attributed to God, I think, with which he had absolutely nothing to do. Such as priests on both sides of a war blessing the rifles and other implements of war... you know the story.
Reminds me of the lyrics so beautifully sung by Joan Baez: If God is on our side, he'll start the next war.
