Hi Steve does it indicate on the bottle anywhere which wine region its from? I've never heard of the Black chook before.
Yeah a few of our bottles have screw top now. Its becuase of the cork shortage or something...
Personally I enjoy wines from the Rutherglen and Hunter regions.
mp, its produced by woop woop wines, mclaren vale, SA.

I see you have a pic of the pirate costume from the party. I was hoping you would put it up on the board! I can't wait to see what you look like without it. I may not figure out who you are next time, lol! I remember the whiskey you shared with me right before I left. Wow that was good. I don't recall the name but it was very smooth.

hmmm I might go down to Local Liquor after work and see if I can find me a bottle.
I've had a day thats OD'd me to the max... A nice shiraz well help me collect my thoughts together....
There is absolutely nothing wrong with a screwcap. Cork taint(TCA) occurs in about 5 or so bottles out of a hundred on average. It sucks when you have a particular wine on the rack that you are looking forward to for a special occasion and then when you open it, bleeaach, it's musty.
NZ and AUS are both leading the way in screwcaps right now compared to the US and Europe. I think NZ is almost entirely screwcaps. If not, they soon will be. Smart folks down there.
Personally, if I want a special bottle of wine and it happens to cost a little more than my usual price range, I will look for one with a screwcap. I prefer to take a near zero chance of encountering a spoiled bottle.
I totally agree Jourles screw tops are the way to go....hang on I don't think credibility when it comes to judges wine...Miss Peaches I still drink Passion Pop....or maybe for you a yummy Peach Cooler?

Quite often we hear of Australian wines being sold in the USA that are unheard of downunder. The reason is that they are special labels especially for the export market.
It is very difficult for Australian winemakers to get their wines into the USA market where the local (especailly Californian) winemakers have lobbied Congress hard to raise the tariffs etc and to bar the US market from Australian wines. As a consequence, in an effort to break into the market, some unique labels are being sold. It does make us think that the American winemakers are 'running scared'; they see a superior product and do their darnedest to stop its entry as a competitor in 'their' market. On a personal level, the past couple of Christmases I've been unable to send bottles of shiraz as Xmas gifts to some dear American posters for that very reason.
Re screw tops:
I dont like them particularly - screw tops that is. I was speaking with my favorite winemaker, he's from the Margaret River region of W.A., and he asked me to try a dozen with screw tops. That's what I'm doing, but....I dunno, it's not the same. The change is beneficial for the winemaker (eliminates bad corks) and at the same time is of benefit to the consumer (for the same reason)
I'll concede that some bottles in my cellar have been spoiled when they didn't take too kindly to a corkscrew. this will be eliminated. I've noticed though that the bottles I have with tops are of the lighter wine variety. My friend has yet to put tops on his very best shiraz.
Did you notice that was Ozzies longest post in his entire life? When you start talkin bout wine, he gets like he's on 'speed' or sumthin.........poor bastard.

That is the reason why many vintners are not abandoning cork just yet. People in general still look forward to and want to retain the ritual of uncorking a bottle of wine. How many wine novices(lack of a better term) would be in absolute shock to go to a fine restaurant on a special occasion only to have the sommelier unscrew a cap, when instead they were expecting a display of wine uncorking prowess? There are quite a few people out there that don't realize that a very good bottle of wine can and will have a screwcap. Yes, even ones that range into the hundreds of dollars. It would be a shame to waste that kind of money...
But hey, what would I do with my rabbit if corks disappeared?
