Haven't heard but on past form we know the answer - don't we? The WTS says it looks after its own. How convenient! It saves opening the wallets.
Cautious optimism for Pakistan quake survivors 11:42 PM November 8One month after Pakistan's devastating earthquake, aid agencies are facing a cash crisis as the threat of disease and death looms over vast numbers of homeless survivors and a bitter winter closes in.
The United Nations (UN) is struggling to raise $US550 million for a medium-term program to help victims of the October 8 quake that killed more than 73,000 people in Pakistan and about 1,300 in India.
Earlier, a UN spokeswoman said figures provided by the Federal Relief Commission had put the toll at more than 87,000. She later said these figures had not come from the commission and its figure remained unchanged.
Commission spokesman Colonel Baseer Malik says the death toll is unchanged at 73,276.
He says this is likely to rise as more information came in from remote areas, but not dramatically.
The total response to the UN appeal has only been $US134 million despite a chorus of warnings of a second disaster unless there is a faster flow of shelter supplies and medical aid.
Despite the shortfall, UN officials say they are cautiously optimistic they can get help to everyone who needs it before the winter. -Reuters
