I just looked at a recent post showing the figures for the USA. As expected, August bailed out the Society with an increase of 0.22%, which when rounded off, will be a flat indicator.
Baptisms seem just a tiny bit down.
I think the question to consider and ponder over now, is not, "How much is the increase this year" or "How many got baptized", but "How well do witnesses follow the party-line?"
From what we have seen in the WT articles for 2005, it would seem that a lot of witnesses are NOT following the party line of the faithful and discreet slave.
These are the biggest issues for the WT so far...
1) Education, education, education
2) Chat rooms
3) Apostates
4) Internet
5) Porn
6) Materialism
7) General loss of zeal
Points 1-4 are the MAJOR mover and shakers - why? They all involve COMMUNIATION through chatrooms, apostates (in person) and the Internet.
The more people become "aware" of WTS teachings and alternative viewpoints, the less they want to do - after all, why put more effort into the preaching work when you know the message is a load of crap?
The E-Watchman site has affected not a few witnesses - and many of them are active witnesses, slowing down and only using the bible to preach.
In the past, the question a lot of us wanted to know, was "is there an increase?", now it's "who's following the direction of the faithful and discreet slave?"
Time will tell, but it seem the "reformists" within the Jehovah's Witness religion will be those who slack off, send their children to college and save for retirement.
The Society can't very well function with a dwindling contribution supply and less motivated elders to get the work done.
