The Norwegian branch of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of New York filed criminal charges against ex-Jehovah's Witnesses Kent Steinhaug and Jan Haugland of Norway in 1997. The charges alleged that Steinhaug and Haugland posted copies of Pay Attention to Yourselves and to All the Flock, a confidential manual for elders. The charges were later dropped, and the volume is still available online.

As a note, I might add it was the Norwegian Police who dropped the case - not the Watchtower. They just found out they would loose :)

Kent, thanks for bringing this to my attention. Glad this little story is not forgotten. Just too bad that the WTS chickened out from bringing a civil suit against us.

I guess I have 14 minutes left of my fame then

Yeah, that would have been a hell of a lot of fun. I almost fell out of my chair laughing when the braindead lawyer Haakon Helstedt threatened to sue me for "economical losses" because of this.

I found it on another page there as well:

IN THE COURTS: Online criticism of religious leaders and organizations sparked one of the greatest controversies on the Internet when the Church of Scientology sued former members in 1995 for copyright infringement. Hackers on both sides of the argument attacked Web sites and e-mail addresses of their opponents. A similar battle is now taking place with the Jehovah's Witnesses, who threatened legal action against a critical site in Norway.

    Ballistic,

An online copy of the elder's manual can be found here (among other places): http://home2.inet.tele.dk/carloc/

    Ballistic,

Why don't you visit my website? You will find the elder-manual in LOTS of languages. Go for the "Secret Books" in the left menu, or - if that's too difficult (LOL), try this link:

    thanks very much
I got caught up there reading the elders manual from the first link. I was trying to find out why at my judicial comittee one elder went off on one, with a barrage of rapid fire questions asking me if had smoked, owned pornography, committed adultery, gambled, and so on.
Cant find any basis for this interogation.
