I dislike the commercialism, the music, the incessant "Happy Holidays", and the church's insistence to put "Jesus back in Christmas."
But I really like Xmas lights. I put up a 7 foot tree and three small trees in my yard and strung lights around them, strung up lights on my gutters, and put candles in my windows. The look is just peaceful.
Hi katydid - I like the lights too... they've always held a certain magical quality for me.
I don't like cheesy or corny christmas music, like sometimes played in shopping centres, but have you ever heard a full orchestra, or 100 piece brass band play christmas carols ? Or even better, a well orchestrated choir singing their hearts out to a traditional hymn - that's the closest I get to a religious experience these days. A good one can easily move me to tears.
The human voice is the most beautiful instrument of all, in my opinion, and fior some reason seems to be heralded best of all at christmas.

I like some Christmas music...probably the oldtimers like Nat King Cole and Bing Crosby's stuff best, as well as orchestral cds and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir or the Vienna Boys Choir.
I like the lights and outdoor decorations, but not when it's over done. I pass a house going to and from work that looks like a truck carrying Christmas decorations; all different styles of lights and blow-up figures, crashed in the front yard. It's pretty crappy looking and the guy leaves it up until about March. Guess he must think it looks good.
I like some of the Christmas specials on tv too...the old A Christmas Carol, A Christmas Story (Ralphie and his Red Rider BB gun), and some of the old cartoon ones...pretty cheesy, but they bring back memories.
I like eggnog too.
I like the smell of a real christmas tree and of gingerbread cookies. I also love the lights.
Yes, I have to agree the two things I like best are the lights and the smells, fir trees and garland, and the spices of the cookies and foods during the holidays.

I am also a big fan of Christmas lights - sometimes I will just sit and stare at how pretty our tree looks ( after turning other lights in the room off). It's mesmerizing.
Must mean I am worshipping the demonic tree of Druids. O, tannenbaum...
I love love LOVE the lights!! I used to enjoy them even when I was a dub.. but wow.. to have my own.. I am really lovin them!!
