I don't know why, but somehow the word's got all run together (grrr).
This is an early Christmas present to my daughter. Do yall think she'll like it? How can I improve on it? Frannie Who Is This Woman? I heard your cries before your body was free, And when you were brought before me, Your little face had such a worried look. Was “opposite” your life’s motto When everytime I told you “Don’t,” You did? But not much past your toddler years I realized your heart was tender And few hardwords were necessary To get you to follow my lead. When you first danced, My heart was filled with delight But I mistakenly laughed out loud And you withdrew your magic from sight Not realizing I loved you all the same. As you grew in years, You sometimes pierced my heart With the mistakes you made, But then…..I made some with you. Through the growing up years I shook my head in wonder at Your goodness toward me In most every thing you did And raged with fury inside and out Against those who did you harm. And it broke my heart to see you Grow up in an instant and Go out the door To something you would pay dearly for. Ten years it took you to shake yourself free And come into your own in life. Since that time, you’ve brought me To my knees in wonder. Not only over how well you’ve survived All that you’ve endured, But how wise you’ve become in your womanhood, As mother, professional and wife. With all the hats you wear, (and you wear so many of them so well) You’re like a magician juggling many balls Until they all just magically disappear, As you give your family and career Your devotion and nurturing care. Your tact and gentleness in dealing with others Serves you well, commanding respect From all in your venue. I’m amazed at how you’ve learned From past mistakes And never made same ones twice. You’ve seized with gusto All life’s days And made you and your family A wonderful life. A life that’s full of laughter And calmness and mostly peace, Comfort and caring and wisdom, hon. And I thank God I can now look Back on my life’s accomplishments And say, “Hey! I gave birth to Wonder Woman!” Not everyone can make that claim. Love, Mom

Frannie, that was absolutely, absolutely lovely. I am sure she'll cry to get your gift.

That was not a lot of sentimental fluff... that was wonderful and amazing, poetry of the heart.

What's funny is, today I'm having some troubles as my oldest son begins to pierce my own heart, and I see him beginning to be ready to walk out in an instant. Thanks for the ray of hope. I hope that he'll be wise enough to steer himself well, but if not, I can certainly wait 10 years like you.

Thank you so much for your comments, Confession, Forsharry, Magoo & Bebu. I sure hope she does. Maybe the only thing I forgot to put in is that for a short person, she stands pretty tall now.

(((((Bebu)))))), my heart goes out to yall, cause I've got that T-shirt somewhere packed away in that "baggage" I carry around at times. Someone said, "What doesn't kill us makes us stronger." I'm sure that's true, but it doesn't lessen the pangs that accompany watching your children grow into adulthood. The pain is much worse than labor pains and it's such a tremendous relief when we can finally see the "finished product."

    Hugs,

    Frannie

That was very touching! Your love and admiration comes through in that poem Do you mind if I pretend my mother sent me that?
