I came home this morning and my mother and little brother started to hum a tune and asked me if it was a Christmas song...Turns out it was "Carol of the Bells". And my JW father had been whistling it the night before after he heard it on a commercial. When my mother asked him, isn't that a christmas song? His answer was NO! It isn't. Now...it IS on many of my Christmas CDs, so I imagine it IS a Christmas song. Anyone know the words? That might show him that not just because he says something isn't that it's not. *sigh* honestly, it's just like catching a kid with his hand in the cookie jar and him saying he didn't do it. What's wrong with singing a christmas song, anyway...
Is that a Christmas Song?

Hark! how the bells
Sweet silver bells
All seem to say,
"Throw cares away."
Christmas is here
Bringing good cheer
To young and old
Meek and the bold
Ding, dong, ding, dong
That is their song
With joyful ring
All caroling
One seems to hear
Words of good cheer
From ev'rywhere
Filling the air
Oh how they pound,
Raising the sound,
O'er hill and dale,
Telling their tale,
Gaily they ring
While people sing
Songs of good cheer
Christmas is here
Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas
Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas
On, on they send
On without end
Their joyful tone
To ev'ry home
(repeat from the beginning)
Ding, dong, ding, dong. -

When I was a JW, I would check the lyrics. Songs such as Winter Wonderland and Jingle Bells don't mention Christmas although I had a few "discussions" with JWs regarding that. That song was feature in Home Alone. I wonder how many JWs did not go to that? I know of 3 elders families that went (or the ones that get the DVD and watch it at home).

What's wrong with singing a Christmas song...the same answer JWs give for having a tree, decorating your home, giving gifts, etc.
I wonder how many JWs think that "It's a Wonderful Life" is a Christmas movie; yet if you really notice, Xmas is only a small part at the end.
I was told about one congregation that has the annual meeting of the elders with the regular pioneers on Christmas Day at an elder's home with a big meal....

Well...my dad is a strange creature, he has no problem whatsoever to watch movies like "Boreal Express" , "Home Alone" and anything dealing wit Christmas..yet, he panicks at the thought of humming a christmas song.
Anyway, thanks for the words, you two! It will be hard for him to be in denial now.

Jingle Bells actually has no christmas lyrics....but everyone thinks it does.I never knew Jingle Bells had so many lyrics.
Dashing through the snow
In a one-horse open sleigh
O'er the fields we go
Laughing all the way;
Bells on bob-tail ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight!O! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way!
O what fun it is to ride,
In a one-horse open sleigh, hey!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way!
O what fun it is to ride,
In a one-horse open sleigh!A day or two ago
I thought I'd take a ride
And soon Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side;
The horse was lean and lank;
Misfortune seemed his lot;
He got into a drifted bank
And we, we got upsot!O! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way!
O what fun it is to ride,
In a one-horse open sleigh, hey!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way!
O what fun it is to ride,
In a one-horse open sleigh!A day or two ago
The story I must tell
I went out on the snow
And on my back I fell;
A gent was riding by
In a one-horse open sleigh
He laughed as there
I sprawling lay
But quickly drove away!O! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way!
O what fun it is to ride,
In a one-horse open sleigh, hey!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way!
O what fun it is to ride,
In a one-horse open sleigh!Now the ground is white
Go it while you're young
Take the girls tonight
And sing this sleighing song;
Just get a bob-tailed bay
two-forty as his speed
Hitch him to an open sleigh
And crack! you'll take the leadO! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way!
O what fun it is to ride,
In a one-horse open sleigh, hey!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way!
O what fun it is to ride,
In a one-horse open sleigh!Gumbells

Gumbells!! Where ya bin?
That Jingly Bells song doesn't seem to have much to do with chrissie, does it? Dunno why peoples should think it does.
Oh well, p'haps it's another urban myth, eh?
Cheers, Ozzie (still looking up at yer)

It's a seasonal song and so gets lumped in with Christmas carols.

Not a sign of Christmas
Dashing through the snow, in a one-horse open sleigh
Over the fields we go, laughing all the way;
Bells on bob-tail ring, making spirits bright
What fun it is to ride and sing a sleighing song tonight
[chorus:]
Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way!
O what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way!
O what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh
A day or two ago, I thought I'd take a ride
And soon Miss Fanny Bright, was seated by my side;
The horse was lean and lank, misfortune seemed his lot;
He got into a drifted bank and we got upsot
[chorus]
A day or two ago, the story I must tell

A gent was riding by, in a one-horse open sleigh

[chorus]
Now the ground is white, go it while you're young
Take the girls tonight, and sing this sleighing song;
Just get a bob-tailed bay, two-forty as his speed
Hitch him to an open sleigh and crack! you'll take the lead
