There's a whole lot of talk about loving but let me tell you how I feel
Loving may keep this old world turning but money greases the wheels
I said the money greases the wheel
Well one time these two brothers were floatin' down the river on a raft
One brother fell in the water the other brother ah he just laughed
And said I'll save you for a dollar and a half
Well there's a whole lot of talk...
Well a long time ago this outlaw he robbed and killed and stole
His girlfriend heard about a reward she went to the sheriff and told
And got ten thousand dollars in gold
Well there's a whole lot of talk...
[ steel ]
Well one time in Las Vegas a gambler was shootin' craps
He lost all his money and his baby but when he won his money back
He got ten new babies on his lap
Well there's a whole lot of talk...
Well there's a whole lot of talk...

JD,I love Ferlin Husky songs along with other REAL country artists of his time period.
Since You've Gone is probably my favorite. Wings Of A Dove is another one.
Thanks for jogging my ageing mind into thinking about what real country music is about.

Same here HD been a long time since I thought of Ferlin Husky, I loved:- From a Jack to a King
- Great Speckled Bird
- Green Green Grass of Home
- Big Wind
Big wind's a comin' listen to the hummin' hurry kids be quick don't stall
Big wind's a comin' listen to the hummin' if we don't hurry it'll ge us all
From daylight to dusk we've been a workin' in the dust
Pickin' cotton workin' side by side
Now I can't forget yes I remember yet the way dad looked at me and he cried
Big wind's a comin'...
So scared my lips were scaled I ran across the field
To warn my mom to storm was on its way
I knew I'd won my race when I saw my mommy's face
She turned away and I could hear her say
Big wind's a comin'...
My dad was in the cellar and by now the sky was yellow
The wind's so strong the trees were fallin'
Outside I heard him cryin' as he lay there dyin' I can still hear my daddy callin'
Big wind's a comin'...
Big wind big wind big windDorothy

I always liked Ferlin Husky. Wolverton Mountain was one that sticks in your head for days after you hear it--very distinctive tune. Johnny Horton had some good ones too.
They say don't go on Wolverton Mountain,
if you're looking for a wife.
Cause Clifton Clowers has a pretty
young daughter,
he's mighty handy with a gun and a knife.
Her tender lips are sweeter than honey....
And Wolverton Mountain protects her there.
The bears and birds tell Clifton Clowers
If a stranger should wander there.
All of my dreams are on Wolverton Mountain.
I want his daughter for my wife.
Ill take my chances and climb that mountain
Though Clilfton Clowers, he may take my life
Her tender lips ....
I'm going up on Wolverton Mountain,
It's too lonely downhere below.
It's just not right to hide his daughter
From the one who loves her so.
Her tender lips ...
But I dont care about Clifton Clowers,
I'm gonna climb up on his mountain,
I'm gonna take the girl I love.
I dont care about Clifton Clowers,
I'm gonna climb up on his mountain,
I'm gonna take the girl I love. -

Incidentally, I think that name "Clifton Clowers" is one of the neatest sounding names I've heard.

Money does make the world spin, as long as you have money you have lots of friends but if it runs out then you will be abandoned by all. They were not real friends but rather products of the money culture.

Here's another Ferlin Husky fan!!!
I played my "45" record of "Gone" over and over until it turned gray! It's nice to see this little remembrance of him this morning.

Hi Annie,
I remember when I was just a little guy and my dad knew I loved "on the wings of a dove". I remember one night I was supposed to go to sleep and my dad snuck in my room with a little transistor radio when on the wings of a dove was playing and he let me listen to it without my mom knowing he was keeping me up. Ferlin goes back a ways.

My gosh folks...Don't forget about;
"There ain't enough whiskey in Tennessee to drink the ugly off of you."
You'll find it on Ferlins' greatest hits., which are actually NEW recordings of all his big favorites.
