I found this link interesting. It shows Arkansas chess rankings in order of highest to lowest ranking. (if my name was on the list you could look for it at or near the bottom)

    http://www.angelfire.com/ar3/aca/ratings.htm

Number 6 from the top is Lance Umbarger, a contemporary to my sons (some 44 years old) who manages (with his Mom and Dad) Beauty World in NW Arkansas.

He is a JW, if my sources are correct. When in the Borg, we all attended the KH in Rogers back in the early 70's. His Dad and I worked at Daisy, the BB gun place. Lance's folks are JW, also.

Lol - well I'm sure someone will post the BOrg's opinion on playing chess. Good thing that not all dubs take notice of that UnScriptual rubbish.

    Yeah, MWC.

I got out in the late 70's and don't remember chess having such a negative spin. Dad and I sure had some great moments together on opposite ends of the board. I have heard they've since developed a negative opinion about chess and its war-producing tendencies.

This Umbarger lad must not be paying attention -- and I can't say I blame him.

Playing chess is compared to being a general in a war. there was articles written about this 40+ years ago

I remember getting into chess in Junior High only to find out it was yet another thing I wasn't allowed to do. Thinking back, I'm trying to remember anything I was allowed to do growing up in the borg.
