As i passed through WOL site I saw a post on how to handle microphones. It was a pointless discussion about using cordless vs cord or a boom. Wow ... big stuff.
It reminded me of a few times I ran the mics. We had a man in the audience who was a Bible-Thumping-Baptist who decided to visit during the Watchtower study. He was called on to answer a questioin, and when he got the mic, he started going off on the beauties and goodness of the Trinity doctrine. (We were using cordless mics, so we could no longer remove the mic as we could've when we used booms.)
The man ran on and on about the Trinity and God's Word of truth. The Elder conducting the study was so stunned, he just stood there and let the man talk on and on. All eyes in the audience were on him, and mouths open wide. Except for his comments, you could hear a pin drop.
When he finally finished, the Wt Conductor thanked him and reminded the man the JWs do not accept the Trinity, and would be pleased to talk with him after the meeting. The man smiled and agreed. I thought the WT Conductor was tactful.
Then, for some odd reason, the man raised his hand later on, and the Conductor called on him - big mistake - and the man went into other typical baptist dogma and then bounced back to the Trinity and Jesus being God.
So, in situations like the Elders are technically supposed to raise their hands and comment with rebuttal statements of Truth to counter-act the false teaching comment made by such visitors. So, after this second comment by the man, every Elder's hand went up, and each, including me, took turns in stating the Trinity is false and Jesus is not God, blah, blah, blah.
Later on the man raised his hand again, but this time the Conductor would not call on him. After a few rejections, the man started talking outloud objecting as to why he was not being called on. Finally the Attendant asked him to be quiet or leave. The man stayed quiet. And after the meeting we held a special Elders meeting to discuss this nonsense.
Gawd! Was I really ever part of this goofy religion? I can't believe I was - but I have all these memories of JW insanity - so it must be. - Amazing
