ROME (AP) — Pope Francis' point man on clerical sex abuse said Monday the failure of the Catholic Church to punish bishops who covered up for pedophiles had seriously harmed its credibility and that it must now lead the way by "humbly making the commitment to accountability, transparency and zero tolerance."

Cardinal Sean O'Malley, archbishop of Boston, said canon lawyers and theologians were reviewing proposals to present to the pope on holding bishops and religious superiors accountable. The proposals were developed by Francis' commission of experts, which O'Malley chairs and includes two survivors of abuse.

According to a UN investigation the pope is all talk and no action...

“The committee is gravely concerned that the Holy See has not acknowledged the extent of the crimes committed, has not taken the necessary measures to address cases of child sexual abuse and to protect children, and has adopted policies and practices which have led to the continuation of the abuse by and the impunity of the perpetrators.”

"In an open letter to the Pope, the panel of participants wrote: “We find not only ambiguities, but obvious contradictions between your actions and your pledge that you would not tolerate pedophilia and take all the steps necessary to end this calamity in the Church."..

Let's see how long it takes the WTBTS to point the finger at the RCC.

"Tax them out of existence!", I say! All in favor?

I am Catholic and have said more than once, it wouldn't bother me in the least if all religions were taxed, Perhaps some reduction for valid charity that the government doesn't have to perform.

I think they should get a 100% tax break for not having pedophilia, money laundering, elder abuse, child abuse, animal cruelty, human trafficking, etc., etc. scandals. If they fail, tax them. That would be a policy the Watchtower, and all religious corporations would understand.

the pope is all talk and no action...

Could be - I am hardly a Catholic apologist.

However, their point man says that they have failed.

The Mormons have opened up about some of their mistakes.

WTS response - "screw off!" We've supplanted Jesus - Who are you to dare to even question anything that we have said or done?

    "We are unaccountable and infallible."

"If it seems that we have been wrong in some way in the past, it is Jehovah's will, as a test."

their point man says that they have failed

Their point man is full of BS. How many pedophile priests, bishops and archbishops have they given up to the police?

berrygerry - "their point man says that they have failed. The Mormons have opened up about some of their mistakes. WTS response - 'screw off!'"

You know the (WT) world is turned upside down when the RCC says "we were wrong" and the WTS draws a line in the sand.
