Did Mother Teresa Really Help the Poor?

Below are some quotes from a former Catholic Sister.

    See if you agree.

Mother Teresa – Albanian nun and honorary American.
"Give until it hurts" she said and amassed a fortune never used for charity work but instead funding convents and nunneries across the world, seducing more young minds with reactionary dogma.
"Mother was very concerned that we preserve our spirit of poverty. Spending money would destroy that poverty ... the millions of dollars accumulating in the bank were treated as if they did not exist."
"There are many who generously have supported her work because they do not realize how her twisted premises strangle efforts to alleviate misery. Unaware that most of the donations sit unused in her bank accounts, they too are deceived into thinking they are helping the poor."
    – Susan Shields, former sister with Missionaries of Charity.

So, was she wise or not and is this lady's comments about her correct?

She believed in watching others suffer and felt that watching there suffering was bringing her closer to Christ. She took the large donations and blew them on nun schools and missions that cranked out uneducated girls by the masses. She was not the saint they make her out to be. She had her own hospice which consisted of rows of poor, hungry, suffering peasents who were not allowed to go outside or see family. The were forced to sit or lay on cots all day until they died. She took in millions of dollars that could have made there last days bearable but then the suffering would go out the window along with her channel to Christ through there suffering.

She's another example of a good hearted person twisted by religious dogma. Her ridgid stance against birth control and divorce in her tragically over populated country were enough to disqualify her from any real praise as humanitarian.

Oooh You've re-activated my borg brainwashing with your anti catholic post!

Yet another example of a "christian" telling people to do as I preach, not as I do. I do hope the monies that were accumulated in those accounts were freed to the people it was intended for and not swallowed up by the catholic church.

....anyway I can find out where these "uneducated" babes are at now so's I can take advantage of them?

    Hey patnick....interesting post....and thanks

Pete, you gave an interesting perspective.....a good woman, but sadly influenced by religious dogma.

    Are you kidding?

She is probably toasted on the highest levels... of EXACTLY how a "good christian" should be. Poor as dirt yet raking in dough for "mother"...just like her Dub counterparts. Whether or not her "heart" was right has nothing to do with it... she was good for "business".

The WTS is in envy... and trying like hell to emulate her.

....and all that money is tax free to boot!....What a scam.

U/d and Preston.....you two bastards are one up on me with regards to little missy Teresa. I always looked to her like Ghandi and never questioned any damage she may have done because of Catholic beliefs.

Thank Preston for your thread link as I don't remember it. Being a thread in 2004 is waaaaay past my memory level. Damn weed.

Okay......I'm sitting here totally stunned by this thread. At first, I thought the Gumbastard had had one too many tonight, but I am shocked to read that Mother Theresa never actually spent any of the money that people donated on the poor!! Why has this never come out before?? That's just pathetic. What the hell's the point of giving to a charity if they're not going to actually help anyone!!

Anyhoo, I'm off to bed.............have a good night!
