KNOCKING Newsletter Update
February 2006
www.knocking.org
There is much news to report about the documentary film KNOCKING on
Jehovah's Witnesses.
-- Production and editing is complete! You will soon be able to see the
63-minute documentary at film festivals and community screenings this spring
and summer. A shorter, 53-minute version will be broadcast nationally on PBS
in the fall. Home DVDs of the long version will be available this summer
with lots of bonus features and extra material.
-- Emmy award-winning documentary series Independent Lens has picked up
KNOCKING for broadcast on PBS in the fall 2006 season. More details to come
on their web site: www.pbs.org/independentlens
-- The University of Nevada and Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno
hosted a special sneak preview screening of KNOCKING on Feb. 7. The
documentary was shown on two screens simultaneously on opposite ends of the
campus. The response was so great that the college had to open a second
theater to accommodate the overflow crowd.
HOW TO GET THE DVD
If you haven't already, be sure to click on "Get More Info" and enter your
email address and zip code at www.knocking.org. We'll send you information
when the DVD is ready. There will be lots of bonus features.
HOW TO SEE KNOCKING IN YOUR CITY
We will be doing sneak preview screenings in various cities this summer. We
will pick the cities based on the zip codes you enter at www.knocking.org.
If we see a huge number of respondents from the Atlanta area, for example,
then we know there is enough interest in that location to do a sneak preview
screening. Please email us at [email protected] if you want to
organize a screening in your area. We will be relying on local volunteers to
organize these community screenings. If you want to make it happen, take the
initiative! It is easy to rent a local theater and charge small admission to
cover expenses. Or if you live in a university town, ask the dean of the
history, religion, sociology, law or medical school departments to host a
screening. Direct them to www.knocking.org so they can see that all of these
topics are covered in KNOCKING. If you email us wanting to organize a
screening please, type SCREENING VOLUNTEER in the subject heading.
SPREAD THE WORD
A number of Jehovah's Witnesses in the Reno, Nevada area have already seen
KNOCKING. They will no doubt be telling their friends about the experience.
Direct friends, family, co-workers, classmates and neighbors to
www.knocking.org.

Looks like time is getting close to have flyers printed up, ready to be handed out to theatre patrons with websites showing the Truth about the "Truth", such as Silentlambs, The new Quotes sites, among others. I can't believe that they are getting away with presenting one side of the issue, trying to make JW's appear in a wonderfully positive light. Unless of course, they are advertising the movie as FICTION???

Ugh, I read the blurb about this documentary, and it sounds like the film does a fabulous job of making the WTS and its followers look like good, loving, caring, compassionate, albeit misunderstood, people.
Granted, I'm sure there are lots and lots of well-meaning JWs out there who truly believe that they are doing the right thing, I don't mean to tar them all with the same brush, but I don't think that the WTS, as an organization, is well-meaning, I think it's inherently evil and flawed, Just my opinion.
Maybe it's time for those of us on the other side, who opposed the WTS, to step up to the plate and put together our own documentary and get it screened at some film festival. There have to be some aspiring filmmakers on the board, right?? I know I'm one, but I also know that I live in the middle of nowhere and I don't think there's even anyone else on the board who lives in Newfoundland right now.
Whadda ya say, fellow JWDers, time for us to counter with a documentary of our own??

I don't understand why this video is being advertised here. It seems to me this is a video that is going to try to put the witnesses in a positive light. Show them as good guys who have expanded the field of medical science so that we can now have bloodless surgery.

Sorry my previous post got messed up. I don't understand why this video is being advertised here. It seems to me this is a video that is going to try to put the witnesses in a positive light. Show them as good guys who have expanded the field of medical science so that we can now have bloodless surgery. Yeah okay - one of their crazy practices has caused there to be some positives. But this group also believes there is going to be an armaggedon and everyone is going to die except them. They brainwash their children and isolate them from society and then shun them when their children wake up. What we need to show society is that this group is a cult that ruins peoples lives. Not make people see them as good jolly citizens. These good things witnesses have done for society is an absolutely ridiculous concept. This group that has so-called benefited society is waiting for the time when society is completeley destroyed. To praise them as overcoming nazi opposition as a victory for civil liberties and the right to have freedom of religion is crazy to me. Then why shouldn't we be praising suicide cults, where they kill themselves because an alien ship is coming down to take them away as a true victory for religious freedom. No the media and society ridicules them as crazies. But since JW's aren't going around commiting mass suicide but their real negative affects on people and society is more subtle a documetary like this comes out. It's not right.

Am I the only one who thinks that no one except a JW would go to see a documentary about JWs in a theater? JWs might be interested in.... ex-JWs are interested because they want to see what dumb things this "Knocking" is bound to say... but what other person who has not been closely affected by JWs would ACTUALLY go see that? They certainly wouldn't pay money to... in fact, I don't think most would watch it for free. The majority of people I have ever met don't like Jehovah's Witnesses and pretty much don't care enough about them except to make a casual joke (something along the lines of "Some of those stupid door-knockers showed up on my porch this morning and I slammed the door on them!") I mean... do you think anyone will REALLY pay much attention to this thing except the usual suspects?

How much you wanna bet that that overflow crowd was composed mostly of JW's who were notified in advance?
