Yeah, McD's is the most horrible crap on the planet, but about every 6 months I get breakfast there. Anyway, it was 9:00 on Saturday morning. I was going in the door when I heard, "Wing Commander, hi how'ya doin?" It was Elder Former-Catholic-with-6-kids-and-lowly-job. Now, this Elder is a nice guy, but really short in the brain department. He is very much a sheep....baaaaaaaaah.....and not a good shephard at all. So we make small talk and I can tell he's going out in field service as he is dressed nice, etc. He asks how my mother is (ticked off for the last 7 years since my father got ill and died and no one cared to call even) so I said she's doing fine. (since the fade, anyway) So anyway, after he said about that he was going out to cover territory he then states he's with his daughter, who's in the car. I'm thinking, "She's in the car? You've been standing in line 10 minutes and it's 28 degrees F outside, and you didn't think to ask your adult daughter if she'd like to come in? How freakin stupid are you?" I almost said it aloud. To me, it really showed how this old geezer was still living in the 1950's and treating women like property, and like she didn't have any feelings. Also, why go preach to others when I'm standing right here and you know full well my non-JW wife wanted to know more about the religion (just as to beliefs, etc, not to join - but they don't know that) and I haven't been there since the last Memorial? Why not mention that? Or that a Memorial is upcoming in a few months?? This really showed me how they don't give two shits about people who already are (or were) in their religion, they only just care about putting in time and recruiting new idiots that they can turn into mindless drones/zombies.

I walked out the door with my breakfast thinking what for a douchebag this guy was, and he was supposed to be an elder? What a fine bit of "shepharding" and "encouragement" he gave to me - phffffhttt!! Do you think maybe I give out a "I'm too smart for your shit" vibe? I'm starting to think that. Anyway, this was my encounter last Saturday. Hope it was good for a pathetic laugh.

Makes you feel good you aren't a part of that crap any more, doesn't it? That guy is a Holy Spirit appointed shepherd of the flock too. I'm thinkin' that the poor Holy Spirit doesn't have much to work with these days.

Yeah, I always wonder that too, why they put so much time into preaching to strangers, when there are people they know who would probably go back with a little shove in the right direction.

    It makes no sense.

Excellent point! You're right about sending out a vibe that he picked up on. They avoid confrontation and won't ask any questions if they think they already know the answer. It says so much about this organization that they will refuse to confront "leakage" but waste countless hours recruiting in an empty field.

LOL reading your post brought back memories. There was a time I would stop in at the McDonalds across the way from where I live to grab a cup of coffee. Every time it never failed I would encounter a table of elders, all of whom don't much like me. They would all just sit there and give me that "die you evil apostate" stare until I left. Eventually it started freaking me out, so I started getting up earlier and making my own coffee.

They surely don't have a solidarity culture for helping one another and it makes no sense to seek to bring in more ppl when they don't really care for those already in the org.

This lack of real fraternity I think is due to the fact that the WTS is a commercial for-profit rather than a spiritual enterprise and as such is not interested in developing Christian love.

Perhaps if there was a little box on the time slips that asked for either number of or amount of time spent encouraging inactives, they'd be more interested.
