    SATAN the DEVIL

In fairness to God, I thought it was time that we focus in the Devil a minute. That sounds rather odd. What has Satan done, at least assuming he is more than a myth, and that the Bible record is accurate. I will start this off:

    1. Satan tricked Eve into eating some fruit. Bad move.
    2. Satan kicked Job’s ass, but at God’s direction or with permission.
    3. Satan runs the government of this world. He could improve on his management style.
    4. Satan gets into war with Michael the Archangel and gets kicked out of heaven. Not sure who started the war, but he loses anyway.
    5. Satan tries to tempt Jesus. Didn’t work, but was that sin, or simply a bad political ploy?
    6. Oh, and judging from Fred Hall's picture, could there be any connection there?

What else do we know about Satan the Devil? Feel free to add to the list of what we know Satan has actually done, whether good or bad, or anything else you really know about Satan. - Amazing

Well, if he were real (which, I realize to many here, he is, and I disparage NO ONE'S beliefs), as has been posted by DC's Ghost, he is the best friend the christian church has ever had. He's the baddy/Jehovah's the goody. He keeps everybody in business.

p.s. and "he" makes a great scape goat, so people don't have to take as much personal responsibility for their actions.

Satan was a political animal from the get-go. God, being egotistical as he is, wouldn't give Satan a chance for a legitimate office to hold. As a result, Satan got pissed and started doing bad things. God supposedly gave Satan a chance to prove himself to humans, but we all really know that God fixed the outcome.

Poor Satan. He got a bad rap. Everyone thinks he's the bad guy. If Satan was allowed to have a legitimate rulership, who's to say it wouldn't work? Heck, look at God's track record.

Hi TR: You make an excellent point. If the WTS were correct in their belief that the universal issue is about sovereignty and the goodness and rightfulness of God's rule, than God clearly stacked the deck against Satan and the human race. Humans have never really had a clear opportunity to rule themselves, for Satan is the 'god of this system of things' and rules over all human governments. Also, since God has intervened in any work of Satan, then he has never had total control, so the title of being the 'god of this system' is little more than honorary. None of the Watch Tower beliefs on this issue make any sense, and need to be sent to the 'Delete Bin' ... along with about 95% of all their other teachings. - Amazing

    Hi Amazing,

I have thought about this problem also. If the Devil was trying to prove that man and himself could rule themselves, why would he influence man to do bad things? He would try to make life the best he could to show God to be wrong. Especially making things like mosquitoes, ticks, fleas and parasites along with all the bad viruses. Was the Devil ever given permission to create things? Isn't Christ supposed to be the creator of everything? Somebody really messed up creation. I was watching a horse in a field near my home and the flies were making him very uncomfortable and for what reason, they were hungry. Life must not be very important in nature as almost everything must be eaten or eat some other form of life, including humans. It does seem to work though, at least so far.

Has anyone here ever read anything about Zoroastrianism? It's a very ancient belief system (rivaling or maybe even predating Judaica--I'll have to read some more) but they introduced the idea that there is a "head hauncho" god, who gets questioned by one of the lesser gods, and thus, a whole psycho drama is played out on who's right. I'll have to read more. I ran across it on the beliefnet.com site under Zoroastrianism. They also came up with a story about a son god who helped redeem mankind. And don't even get me started on the Cannanite god, EL--who got homogenized by Abraham's crew into Elo-him. Or the agricultural Goddess of some of the tribes around Abraham who's symbol was a serpent, (fruit, serpent, woman = bad) and archeologists think they wanted to villify this Goddess by designing the myth of eve and the forbidden fruit.
*sigh* "there is nothing new under the sun" or so I read somewhere....

    Hi Bridgette,

Zoroastrianism is indeed a remarkable religion, well worth examination by anyone interested in the evolution of man's least tangble invention: god.

I think there is evidence that Zoroaster was the TRUE prophet or spokesman of god. For one thing, they do not proselytize.

Freddy Mercury of Queen was a Zoroastrian, and I think we'd all agree that Freddy Mercury could have kicked Micheal Jackson's ass!
