Lets face it, average people off the street are not the people who are becoming Witnesses. In the past, that is how a lot of our relatives became Witnesses and that is why we did all that door to door work, looking for more people like there was in the 1950's and 1960's. In this day and age, these are the people becoming Witnesses.

Children of Witness : They are raised in it, and unless they do something else as an adult, they are highly likely to do what they know in life and become a Witness.

Depressed, or mentally troubled people : People who just lost someone they care about, and are emotionally open to hope. They often burn out quickly though, as they will settle down and start realizing what a mistake they made. I don't know about others, but when I am in a highly emotional state, I am not 100% rational. However, Witnesses are trained to zoom in on widows.

Poor people in 3rd world nations : They will say or do what ever it takes to get out of the hell that is their life. Study this, puppet this comment, etc. What ever it takes.

Low educated people : I do not even buy a car, without researching the information on it. Anyone who blindly goes into a religion, in this information full society, is highly uneducated or one of the above categories.

That is pretty much it. I bet if you are someone who came in within 1980-now, you fall in one of these categories. I don't run across a lot of people saying, "because god moved me too" or because they found me in the field, to much in that time frame. Would you agree?

I see many converts made by Witnesses who are inactive, begin a relationship with a non Witness or marry a non Witness and then the inactive Witness decides to become active again. The other scenario I see is for a non Witness wanting to date or marry a Witness and is willing to make the steps to become a Witness. I see both often.

The first scenario sometimes starts a war. The second makes a convert. It's the JW adaption of "flirty fishing". . . religious growth by genital attraction.

Frankly Free2beme..I find that a little insulting!

I didn't know much about religion when I was called on, only the basics.

I was the youngest of three, so by the time I came around the other two put up such a fuss about going to church that my parents only took us at xmas. (My mother would read bible stories to us though)

I am (or I like to think I am..LOL) a polite person so every time the JW's where about to leave I would always say..BECAUSE OF HABIT ...'please come again' and so I eventually was told about how we can live on a paradise earth forever (Which was new to me) and I wanted to learn more...So I was deceived...and am not in one of your categories!

Yeah, Pentecostalism is the hot cult ticket right now, they're the ones gaining converts out the ying-yang. The Watchtower has become an also-ran in the world of cult recruiting, barely a blip on the radar.

I was 16 years old and in high school when I became a JW. So, I guess I fit into the low educated people category.

It sums up most people that come in these days.

The WTS is not doing as well as many other religions these days in recruting, even in the third world. The WTS is still trapped in Rutherfords 1930's mold whereas other religions are trying to keep relevant to the times we live in.

JWs say they are looking for those "sighing and groaning" over the system of things.

Reality is they are leaching the losers and lost: typical cult fodder.
