You only have to read the Bible a small amount, to know that God does not always put his people in good situations. Sometimes he even allowed his people to be put into slavery, to make them see a lesson he wanted them to know. So with this in mind, I am always amazed at how people in modern Christian religions, always label the good in their life as God helping them and yet ignore the fact that their God might be the one who caused the problem in the first place. Now, this might be something like letting Christian workers in Iraq get kidnapped. Maybe their God is saying "I have forsaken these people, get the hell out or I will have you kidnapped and killed." Instead they think he saves them, when they are released. Then when one of them are killed, they see this as a motivation to do God's will even more. What will???? The one to stop putting your body in harms way and have a good life or the one to die and hope you were doing something he really wanted you do, and get into heaven? I know I am not Christian, but even if I was, I think I would rethink going to lands that are not really seeing much success with Christianity, and putting my life on the line to be a quickly forgotten statistic. Maybe these Christian's need to look at the example of the Bible a little more closely, their God is not always one that should be credited with making good things happen in their life.
People always give credit to God for all the Good things, never the bad???

I saw another example, locally, where a couple said God helped them be found while they were lost in the backroads of Oregon. Yet who was it that had them arrested for Meth warrents when their name was put all over the media?

I have yet to see someone who professes to be Christian fail to declare over the death of someone that "God took 'em."

It's a kind of superstition that exists - that if something "good" happens to "good" people, then God is blessing them, and if something "bad" happens to "good" people, the Devil is testing their faith.
Conversely, if someone "bad" seems to be thriving, then the Devil is bribing them with material wealth (or whatever) to not get close to God. But when something "bad" happens to that person, it's God making sure they are getting what they deserve.

Indeed, I agree with Scully, this belief is one of the main reasons that religion exists, because it feeds out need for some kind of divine justice to exist. The belief that good people have good things happen to them and that bad people have bad things happen to them, is the first step in evolving a modern justice system. The fact the most people believe this show that humans in general have evolved to expect law and order in society.

Yeah, as Scully says it's a form of superstition. Like a CO once said at my cong "everything that happens in life is either down to angelic direction or demonic inervention". Apart from the obvious meaning you can catch the insinuation that bad things are Satan's doing and most good things down to God.
It really winds me up when athletes, singers, actors etc thank God for any success they achieve in their respective professions and then on the other hand people curse God for sending earthquakes, floods etc. As if God could give a crap about getting a semi-talented warbler a grammy rather than saving thousands of lives
I'll give you good bets that the first words to come out of the Pop Idol winners mouth will be a thankyou to God. Maybe God was so busy watching Pop Idol he forgot about Christian worker Norman Kember in Iraq and he ended up getting kidnapped.
