I have a number of friends whose family members are different religions, but a bit over the top as much as JWs. It seems to me that these families also want to discuss religion but my friends and I do not care. Do you find that you have gravitated to peers who have similar backgrounds and/or family experiences as you regardless of their religious affiliation. In particular I have a friend whose father is a Rabbi and he constantly wants to discuss JWs and Judaism. Haven't I served enough time discussing religion. I have met my quota and I wish to stop altogether now.

If I had any friends, I could answer this. ...Nah, just kidding. Yeah, you do kind of tend to gravitate to people who are in similar places in their lives. I do have friends who live a vastly different lifestyle from my own, but we all know to leave the judgemental attitudes at home when we get together.

It's not my friends because they are as indifferent about religion as me, its their family members. It is the lunatic family members that insist on discussion religion all the time. Sometimes I think the US is getting more and more fanatical about religion and beliefs rather then more open minded. Of course I blame it on Bush.

LG...I just saw on a news report that since 9/11 more young people than ever before are turning to religion...mostly the evangalical ones that offer some entertainment! (Not the old type, where you just go sit and listen to a boring sermon!) Anyway, they found that at college campuses about 70% of students say they are religious and go to church often.

So if you get a feeling that more people are becoming religious, I'd say you were getting the right vibes. I keep getting religious e-mails lately from friends. That seems to be the "new" in thing to e-mail...prayers that you pass on, etc.

That's very different from what the WTS said would be happening in the last days...maybe we're not there yet!

That would make sense. It was a come to Jesus moment for a lot of people in the US. Probably a lot of young people were frightened by it and needed some kind of comfort. My thing is just that (and maybe this is because of my background) I don't want to have a heated discussion regarding the Bible. But people find it necessary not to "agree to disagree" but rather try to bring you to their understanding. So I end up just sitting there until they are done talking and then try and change the subject. Still drives me nuts, regardless of the reason or the stats as to why it is happening. Arrrggghhh.

When I first faded, I re-read the entire Bible and saw things in a whole "new light"! LOL! It made me realize all the things we took for granted that the WTS had taught...most of it not true! I could see how they took verses out of context continually to prove their points and that would not be what the verse was talking about at all.

Now, I've moved to a place where talking religion is a burden...kind of like you feel.

I did go to a huge new evangelical church a few months ago and I must say it was entertaining! They had large TV screens that kept posting beautiful pictures during the sermon and the choir....it was packed out!

Guess that's the new obsession in the U.S.

Yeah it seems that way. Americans cannot do anything in a normal way, it's got to be over the top.

I diligently kept away from ppl that were involved in cults as I realised that they are all pretty much the same though some are a little better or a little worse they all want to enslave and exploit ppl through deception and false promises.
