The old GB passes and the new begins

I was reading the Dan Sydlik thread and Blondie's post with the remaining GBs ages got me thinking.

The guys who are dying off now and have been for the past 5-10 years are the guys who oversaw the fast growing organization that was rolling in money and members. They're the guys from the 70s,80s and 90s.

Oops. 90s, that's when everything started to go oh so wrong.

The newer younger guys, likely under Jaracz thumb, have a world of trouble to take care of. The old guard ran the place into the ground and it's up to the new guard to repair it.

Perhaps that's why we're seeing so many "follow the organization" and "new light is good light" articles. They may not know themselves what needs to be done but they are planning on doing something. They must if they want to turn their ship around (that's a tacking reference).

Old guard gone and new guard aboard. Let's see how hard a task master the WTS can become in its attempts to maintain control over member's lives.

Perhaps, but one could argue that this shift from "old" to "new" has been under way for quite some time now.

Barber is 100+, Schroeder was basically incapacitated for years before his death, Barr is 90+....How much influence did these old-timers have in GB meetings? Do they still attend? Can / could they make any sort of meaningful contribution?

I would maintain that the "new GB" has been in effect for at least 5 years. The effect may be more pronounced in the next few years, as the 2 new members begin to flex their muscles, and possibly 2 more new members are added to replace Schroeder & Sydlik.

It will be interesting to see how things will change with the so called new blood but I am very reluctant to believe that real change will ever take place here. They ruined too many families and lives and that takes its toll.

Greendawn, I don't believe it will be change for the better - of the followers. It will be change for the better - of the WTS itself.

What's better for them? More control. How do you control people? We've seen that ourselves. You use peer pressure and guilt. Both are strong motivators.

Sir82, we agree. You've just started the timeline a little earlier than me. I can sign onto that.
