The film is great, and the tribute to the original Twilight Zone series by making the setting a diner is not unnoticed. The makers of the film also found a clever and VERY inexpensive way of doing the credits! I am impressed. --VM44

Well done.
I've had the short story bookmarked for months because i can't find it in the real world. -

A brilliant visualization of one of my favorite short stories. However, they chickened out at the last moment; Bisson's ending actually has a barb in it.
cyd0099,
I've had the short story bookmarked for months because i can't find it in the real world.
worldcatlibraries.org (through which you can find any book available in any North American public library) says this story has been collected in:
- Virtually Now : Stories Of Science, Technology, And The Future edited by Jeanne Schinto
- Nebula Awards 27 : SFWA's Choices For The Best Science Fiction And Fantasy Of The Year, edited by James Morrow
- New Skies : An Anthology Of Today's Science Fiction, edited by Patrick Nielsen Hayden And, of course – the first place I should have looked –
- Terry Bisson's own Bears Discover Fire And Other Stories

Well, the visualization of the setting of the story in the film irks me unfortunately. Of course, no setting was given in the story itself, but it easily lent itself to interpretation as a progress report somewhere in deep space between entities we can only imagine about events in a certain sector of the galaxy. So it was quite distracting to see in the film the conversation take place between two entities that look a lot like they're made of meat on earth itself. It's hard to say because of the way the story was written that this visualization is not true to the original story, but it seems that way to me....
