    to her party tonight!

My wife who is still a JW refuses. To be honest the engagement would be taking centre stage and my family have respect for my wife so my sisters birthday wouldnt be mentioned. But still no!

This set-up sucks. I`m doing normal things again and she is always there to say "well, not for me", or at least give me that frown of disapproval.

    Fed up.

Wow, that's a shame. It sounds like your family's already being very accomodating of your wife...that's asking a lot, not to mention a birthday because it might offend her. Couldn't she meet them halfway, and attend, then? Why not tell her, you'll respect her feelings if she wishes to stay home, if she respects your desire to attend your sister's special event!

In other words, let her sit home by herself, but don't let her spoil it for you! After all, when will your sister get engaged on her birthday again, can't miss that!

Also, I wouldnt mind but the fact that the organisation was steeped in pagan friggin pyramids and all that shit just gets to me.

Birthdays?..........Tame by comparison to 'gods purpose foretold by a pyramid'

    What a pile of crap.

Sorry, should have clarified. I am indeed going but I have kids who are barred from going. Turning up and having to explaining all this crap does my head in.

So why are your kids barred from going? Who is barring them from going. I'm confused.

Is this engagement of a non-JW person to a non-JW person?

    Are your kids minors? DF'd?

Your sister (non-JW?) got engaged on her birthday or...is this engagement party on her birthday? That would be that she got engaged before her birthday but chose to celebrate the engagement on her birthday.

So your JW wife considers this a birthday celebration, not just an engagement party?

Is she barring your kids from going? As the head of the family (JW, ex-JW or non-JW) you still can insist they go...unless they are teenagers and are afraid of ticking mom off.

Strange how the stupid idea of someone that died 60 years ago is still taken seriously today and burdens the lives of so many people, and try telling them that a birthday is just a birthday and they shouldn't see anything strange in it.

you are so right greendawn, I feel like such a fool ot have based my life on some turn of the century pyrmid stuff and then let a drunk and a bunch of lawyers tell me if ican talk to me kids or give them a birthday party.

How terrible.. What right she has to avoid your sister's special day?

As JWs we were held hostage...celebrate a birthday (gnat), get DF'd, have sex without being married to the person (camel), get DF'd. Yet many JWs will more likely understand a person getting caught up in sexual desire and be more forgiving than if a person "deliberately" chose to celebrate a birthday.

It's one of the gnat things.

    Matthew 23:24 (New International Version)
You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel.
