We have been going almost every weekend to an Indian casino about 25 minutes North of us for about a year. We have so much fun and I usually win, but have taken some bad losses too.

In the last 3 weeks, I have won about $2500! I am still in shock.

I only play slot machines and have started playing one called Cropper Dropper for $2.70 a pull, that really pays well when it pays. (you can play a lot less than I do, like 9 cents, 18 cents, etc.) You can lose $100 really, really fast too, and I've done that. It has two big bonuses, one is a Wild Card combined with a Win Big. I you get 4 of them it is $150.00, and if you get 5, it's $750. Another is all Wild Cards, and that win is $300 for 4, and over $1000 for all 5, but not sure how much. All Cherries or Raspberries is $60, so there are some good payouts.

Anyway, 3 weeks ago, I went during the week to retrieve something I had left there on the weekend, so played for awhile. I never hit the really big bonus but got a few of the 4 of a kind big ones, and left with over $800 in winnings, having started with $70. Last week, I hit the jackpot ($750), and yesterday I hit it again and had already won $300 on my ticket. I also won $400 on another ticket, so left with about $1400 over what I started with.

Good for you Mulan, I hope you keep winning. I don't play slot machines personally, I can barely understand how, but dedpoet and I play the National Lottery here in the UK, and we have had a couple of small wins recently, just £10 each time. It's quite a thrill to win, and we don't lose much when we lose.

I think gambling has to be seen in the long term, winnings have to be set against losses in the long term since players tend to go back and lose their winnings.

Some however are smart and know when to stop playing.

That's for sure. My father was a compulsive gambler, cards and other risky ventures. He always played until he lost it all, sometimes thousands.

I see the tendency in myself too, but lately I quit when I win big.

I have a great gambling story! It ended up with a Disassociation and a disfellowshipping! My sister used to gamble high stakes, (think $1,000 hands) when she lived in Vegas about ten years ago. You name it, jewels from Cartier, couture clothing, expensive cars etc. Think about the private rooms in Vegas where only the Asian and the Arabic men play, then throw my sister in the mix with jean shorts and Birkenstocks. She would clean em out, almost every time. The croupiers loved seeing her take money from most of these sexist men. She moved home to Upstate New York to be closer to my parents. She attended the KH infrequently. She had never been df'd or anything else, she had done the fade by moving trick. However the elders deemed it necessary to "meet" with her. Long story short, they asked her to confess her 'sins,' one of which was clearly (in their minds) gambling. She tried to get them to explain how gambling was a sin for her. Not married, no children, handled her own finances. They were unable to make her admit it was a sin. She then asked them to explain how it was different from investing the stock market (OK, with a janitor and a window washer on her 'committee' admittedly the deck was stacked against them). She reminded them that she had bought the sound system for the whole new hall with her 'illicit' money. They did not volunteer to give it back. Finally when they weren't able to give any scriptural explanation, she told them she would willingly stop gambling until the Faithful and Discreet Slave could clarify their position. However, she asked that they confess to HER that there was no scriptural basis for their belief. They flat out refused. After writing a letter to the Society in which they only beat around the bush, the Elders were left to confront the situation and the letter told them their responsiblity was to keep the congregation CLEAN...... They asked to meet with her again, she gave them her Disassociation letter. We were living together at the time. They then came after me, two weeks later, for Associating with a known Apostate. LOL. I told them "Do whatever you want to do, it doesn't matter to me one iota." I was disfellowshipped the next week. Told you it was a good story. That's a good one.

We got an invite from a hotel in Las Vegas, offering us free rooms for 3 nights, free registration for a 3 day tournament in July. Each session ( 2 a day) was 10 minutes on a slot machine. I have no idea why they offered it to us, unless it's a drawing of former guests.

We can't go though. Oh well. I called the same hotel to reserve rooms in September and they gave me a really great rate, $40 less than she first quoted to me, when I told them we had stayed there before and it was my birthday. She put me on hold for about 10 minutes and came back with the winning offer.

    What a story LDH!!!

One time my man and I were playing the pokies (slot machines). We never play them normally. Well we put in $20 and it was going amazingly! Soon we had won $180. Then a brother from the neighbouring congregation that I attended walked around and saw us. Well you should have seen his surprise to see me sitting there gambling. He couldn't say anything though as we know that he takes drugs, smokes, drinks to excess and has sleep overs with women who aren't his wife....!
