So after over 4 yrs I finally read the book...I had a lot of my suspicions confirmed especially with all the doctrinal matters such as 1914, This generation, alternative service, etc. The fact that the GB actually considered all of these things and almost voted for change on some of them but ultimately did not because of not having 2/3 majority is disgusting! The Malawi/Mexico hypocrisy is appalling to say the least. These men are cowards who hide behind an organization. The complacency and lackadaisical attitude they displayed in considering all these issues is reminiscent of any typical body of elders but they have people lives at stake even more so and that is terrible.

The chapter "point of decision" hit me like the proverbial "ton of bricks" I still am reeling from how the witchhunt went down in 1980, what sickened me the most was how these so-called pillars of truth.. these "glorious ones" taking the lead in the WT org, the GB behaved like any typical body of elders. Backstabbing, polictics, lack of communication, evasiveness... this more than anything else convinced me that Ray Franz wrote exactly what happened to him without embelishment because these are the same atttitudes that prevail today. Say what you will about the man but he speaks the truth.

    Thank you Mr. Franz

The lofty FDS of the WTS chosen as he is by God to be His only channel of communication with the world because everyone else was found to be substandard, is nothing but a bunch of crooks, power lusting wolves, yet there are many that say "why don't you accept that the FDS is today's only certified rep of God on earth? Who else is there to go to?"

It's pretty obvious from the voting arrangement that they are not guided by the Holy Spirit. Otherwise they would all speak with one voice. And they wouldn't make absurd decisions as was the case with Malawi versus Mexico. In the latter country everything decided was dictated by the financial interests of the WTS.

It is a great book. Having been on a dysfunctional board of directors for a few years, I recognized a lot of the same internal politics. It's all about maintaining the status quo and not upsetting the apple cart. It's the same everywhere - WTS is no different.

Does anyone know if the GB still needs 2/3's majority on issues at hand? This is not the case with regular bodies of elders and I find this very intereting. The CO is very insistent that when issues come up they should be unanimous, especially for appointments and deletions of servants and elders. Otherwise majority rules and the ones in the minority are often requested to write a letter as to the reason why so the CO can attach it to the report he sends in. Wether or not this is enforced depends on the CO.

I still cant get over how completely relevant CoC is today though written 20+ yrs ago. This just goes to show that things HAVE NOT changed in the WTS even though many of the GB members mentioned in it are now dead. They are still goverened by legalism, pharisaical rules and regulations and a lack of love.

I read CoC last year, just as I was exiting the jws. It didn't persuade me to leave, I had already da'd then, but it helped endorse my decision. After reading that, I absolutely knew it wasn't the truth. Little wonder the gb don't want any jws to read it.

I just finished the book myself a week ago. I bought it used from Amazon. I got the 1999 edition. It is nice how he kept adding to the book over the years.

It's a wonderful book, we bought it a couple of years ago and also bought In search of Christian Freedom, At first I thought that I would be struck down with lightning for reading it, but very soon came to realise that what is being said by Ray is so believable because it can be seen in our own congregations. What an eye-opener ! It certainly helped us to make that all important decision to leave the cult - after over thirty years.

As you said - many thanks for Ray Franz, he has helped so many to see the true light
