This is the situation we're in. Since my daughter was little, I tried to remember to have her call her dad on Father's day, despite me being a JW. He beat us today though and called.

We've also had fathers here who have lost a child due to pmiscarriage, still birth and some children who died later in life (some to the WT blood policy) or to suicide.
Losing a child for any reason does not erase the relationship.
