Social security fraud?

  My dub sister ( bipolar, ocd, parasite) is on social security disability. She has had 4 husbands. (I'll refer to them by number). #3 and #4 died while married to her. Then #2 died recently in another state. She says she is going to apply to get widow benefits now based on # 2's earnings, as it will be more than what she gets now. Does anyone know if that is possible? She really knows how to work the system. I'll never understand how someone with mental illness can be so diliberately calculating.

  Yes I believe it is possible, however she would have had to been married to #2 for at least 10 years and as long as he has not got another widow who was married either first and/or longer than she was.

  You can go to the SS web site and do a search you'll find out all you need to know.

  Awe, be kind! I know how difficult it can be dealing with someone who is mentally ill, but try to keep in mind that she has limitations. Also it's pretty pathetic the pittance given by the government to "help" those incapable of helping themselves.

  What is worse is how hard you have to fight the government for the silly little pittance when you've earned it with all the time working and paying into it and you really need the assistance to live, really pathetic and shameful of the government to with hold what is rightfully yours!

  Yes, it's possible and legal. My aunt filed on husband #3 SS# a few years back when the lady at the SSA told her about it. My aunt asked if it would affect his widow's SS money, and she said no. She now draws a bigger check every month because she filed on him...he was quite wealthy.

  I would think the social security in the UK is different than the US. I would think the UK is more liberal being a socialist country and all.

  Social Security will figure it all out. Just because a person has a mental illness doesn't make them mentally retarded. Most of the people I know on SS for mentally illness disability are on it becuase they have no way to pay for their prescription drugs. Unless you get sick at a good job with excellent benefits you are considered to be suffering from a prior illness and the new health insurance will not cover you when you obtain employment. Also drug testing in many jobs will be able to tell if you are on any psychiatric medicines and they can exclude you from many factory or retail jobs because the drugs cause dizziness and you can't be around machinery like a conveyor belt.

  I understand you may have feelings toward your "dub" sister, but truly, social security is extremely hard to obtain, and many times requires an attorney to get it. It also requires a doctor who is in complete agreement with her ability or lack of ability to work. Often SS will have their own docs exam a peson. It can be a very difficult process and an exhausting one.stories of how easy itis to get SS are false.I know jws do tend to be "users' and maybe that is what you are saying. I have known jws to "pioneer" while on disability. But they will get caught esp if they answer the questions SS asks truthfully.

  If a person is disabled to the point they can't work, they are entitled to disability from social security if they paid into it. As bickerchic said, the amount is so very low here in the states, it seldom covers even the rent (you would not believe how many people exist on 350-a month or less).Even if you had an extremely well paying job, you will not get much from SS. The cost of medicine so high, some meds can run into several hundred dollars for a 30 day supply.

  It is not against the law for a widow to draw her husbands SS if she meets their requirments.

  no need to envy her.

  Be glad you are able bodied, can go to college and get a great degree and make some money and have a nice life.

  She is not gettng rich off SS.

  Sorry for complaining. I sure am NOT envious of her situation. You just gotta grow up in my family to appreciate how opportunistic she can be. She's definitely intelligent. The interesting thing is just how much she hated #2 (he was a jerk to her and her kids), but then she sure did sit up and take notice when he died....

  Again, sorry for my bad attitude. I'm the 'responsible' one (sigh)
