Question: What are the Four Gospels of the bible?

  Answer: Everyone, all together now..... Mathew, Mark, Luke and John.

  Many years ago I was at a typical JW party get-together and they, of course, played your typical JW bible games. It was a contest to see who could answer questions drawn from a hat.

  One of the questions they pulled from the hat was"What are the Four Gospels of the bible?".

  You should have seen it... dead silence with everyone looking back and forth at each other. There were at least 100 JWs there. I though to myself: "You've got to be kidding, am I the ONLY person here who knows the answer to this???" I rose my hand and gave the correct answer to the great astonishment of everyone there. They were aw struck that someone could possibly know such a "deep thing of the bible".

  That is a question you ask a young child in Sunday School... but "Gawd's Chosen People on Earth" didn't have a clue!

  Did you come across any other piece of information that every Christian would know but JWs didn't have a clue?

  I had a similar experience, Elsewhere. In fact, I was banned from JW Bible games.

  I used to say that the elders could name all the teams in the football league, their coaches and star players but not name the 12 apostles.

  Well, they don't typically call them "Gospels," anyway. I don't know why, but "gospel" isn't a word I heard much in the Halls. Should have gotten a clue.

  Gospel means good news. An evangelist is a bearer of and believer in good news.

  The First Century Christians had the good news of Christ to share with people. Jehovah's Witnesses "Announce Jehovah's Kingdom", and though the kingdom IS the good news. In the Bible, the kingdom and all its blessings are a RESULT of the good news, not the good news in and of itself.

  Those who refer to Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John (dare I say Thomas and others?) as gospels are acknowledging that the good news on the lips of Christians was the good news about Christ. This good news included the kingdom. The theme of the Bible never was God's kingdom. Paul even wrote specifically that the Law was a tutor or an instructor leading to Christ.

  Unfortunately, many who leave JWs are blinded by the false teachings and still have fragments of JW thinking preventing them from seeing that the whole point of the Bible is Christ. Not just his ransom but rather, more importantly, a restored relationship, the reforging of a union that was lost, an opportunity to become one with the divine.

  That is good news. It isn't good news of destruction and mayhem. It isn't good news of feasts of kings fit for a bird (as opposed to birds fit for a king). It is such simple good news that almost everyone complicates it for themselves (including me), because it couldn't possibly be that simple. And yet, it is.

  The gospels were the accounts of good news from the perspective of whoever wrote the account. Only John, in my opinion, did not complicate the good news. But I get benefit from all of them.
