Its my understanding that each KH is given a number. What's the number for and is it ever used for anything? Is it used to track finances? Is it used on correspondence? Just curious as to why each congregation would have it's own special number.swife

It's easier to track a number as far as mail, reports, accounts, etc. After all, the US government tracks each citizen with a number (social security number) rather than their name and address. With over 98,000 JW congregations worldwide, it makes sense.
It makes business sense. If anyone has ever visited Bethel's mailroom and saw the volume of mail, you would understand why a congregation number is used.
