Before it struck home how actually horrific this whole thing was, I cracked a joke about how much Gary Condit paid to have those two planes rammed into the WTC, just to get himself out of the top news story spot...
I apologized to the person I made the comment to, and still feel guilty.

you cannot blame yourself for this; it is in our nature to sometimes grasp at humor as a mechanism to aid in coping with events that are too horrific to contemplate.
Don't feel too bad. Bob made a very similar comment on the way to work this morning. Not having to hear about Congressman Condit might be the only only little bit of silver lining we find in this cloud.

Same for me. It takes me an hour to realize that it was not an internet's hoax. I was on work and i had no tv-screen to see what really it was.
We were three in my office and during this time we made a lot of stupid's joke.
But the unbelievable was true :(
I hope that the french's government will be with America in this difficult time.
