    Hi all,

I remember some time back where someone mentioned they got a telemarketer call on their cell phone. It must be happening or about to happen big time and soon.

Today, my financial statement came from my Credit Union and there was this note in it. I have typed it word for word and hope you can benefit from it.

"Cell Phone Directory Going To Press"

The International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators has issued an alert advising that a national directory of cell phone numbers is about to be published.

This will give telemarketers access to your cell phone, which will be very disruptive to people using cell phones for business. It will also waste minutes on your calling plan.

To get added to the National Do Not Call List, call 888-382-1222 from your cell phone. It blocks your number for five years.

Might want to pass this on to others. HappyDad

In Australia they have this scam going where your mobile (cell) phone gets pranked (rings once and hangs up) you ring the number back and its a recording telling you that your eligible for a prize. But you have to ring a 1900 number ($$$$) to get the code. Apparantly its all legal too. Scum bags

    WASTE OF TIME ALERT!!!!

I work for a national phone company and I can tell you that the national do not call register is a waste of time, and since I know it like the back of my hand I will explain why.

    1. It only works if the company chooses to honor it.

Meaning; It is a law without teeth. The government is doing nothing to enforce it. They might send a letter of warning, but all the telemarketing company needs to do, if the letters get to amount to any level that might cause problems. Is change there name!

    2. Anyone who has done business with you, in the last 18 months can call you.

Meaning; You rent a video from Blockbuster (who makes millions selling their customer names) is owned by another corp, who in turn owns other companies and so on and so forth. Those all can call you, as you (somewhere down the corp web) did business with them in the last 18 months. You have no clue how much some corporation own, or how they are connected.

Here is a couple ways to legally fight it. When they call you (DO NOT HANG UP!) Doing so does nothing but add you back into the rotation to call again and again. Instead, stop them and say this ...

"What is your name, your company, okay ... thanks. Now my name is "Your name" and I am recording this date and time, and asking that you immediately add me to your do not call list. If you call again, I will file a complaint with the FCC and advice them of today's date and time of request. Do you understand my request?" If they do not, it does not matter anyway.

If they do call again, make a FCC complaint and advice date and time of request

Also, call your cable company, phone company, cell phone company, and credit card companies and ask to be added to their do not call list. They will honor this! Also, your insurance companies are a good one to add to the do not call list too.

Enjoy. Next is coming all the taxes and surcharges on your cell phone bills and VOIP cable phone bills. Should hit sometime next year.

I have to say that since I listed my phones on the do-not-call list, my incidence of telemarketer calls has dropped from several a day to NONE. I haven't received a bonafide unsolicited telemarketing call in many months. I do get more calls from "surveys" now than I used to (which are exempt from the law), but nowhere near the number of telemarketing calls I used to get. For my money, the program is working just fine.

Lets just say, from my knowledge on this issue, you are heavily in the minority.

It has also worked for us. We rarely get a sales call anymore. We are getting more "survey" calls, but not many.
