    make the family happy.

Before that conversation ensued, I told him that certain things were not right with the Org. For example: Bethel layoffs of older folks, always asking for money like the catholic church.

He said he did not fully agree with 1914 and going to 5 meetings and seeing the pioneers waste their life out in the territory. I agreed. In the end, I told him that what was conversed about stays in room (and JWD) because if our new beliefs are found out than we would be disfellowshipped.

During an interview in a meeting, a brother said that Jehovah helped him with his finances. But in listening the fine print it was the bank who gave him a loan. My dad and I smirked out loud.

1 down, a few more to go. Thank you Jehovah!

I am not new here - I needed a new I.D. Some may know who I am.

And don't ask what TTS stands for. I forgot.

Why do people always bag on the Catholic's Hey going to a Catholic church is much better than Kingdumb hall, and at least when they ask for donations you sometimes meet the people that its going to, like a father I met from a very poor city in Mexico, he was collecting money to help support poor families there, or the group who ask for pocket change that take babies so that un-wed mothers who are thinking about abortion can give the baby away instead of the abortion, Tell me when the last time you heard at the Kingdumb hall them helping anyone who was not a JW???? Sorry had to vent about that, TTS I'm sorry for venting on your thread

    Andre,

you make some good points. When I was a witness the money I contributed which was a minimum of $1,000 a year and many times much more, I never knew what it was used for. Most other churches including the Catholic church will tell you where they spent the money and usually it is to help people in the community.

I know of many in my community who recieve food from the Catholic churches food pantry as well as help with utilities if needed and they don't even have to belong to the church.

A church should be a community of believers who work for the good of all (especially those in the faith but this does not mean you can ONLY help those in the faith). This shows a giving and loving attitude which is what followers of Christ are supposed to have and they are supposed to help not expecting anything in return. Most churches are great examples of this - the WT on the other hand condems itself as being UN-CHRIST like as they only use the money given for the good of their own organization and rarely ever help even their own members with it.

How many of us knew of very poor families in our KH that barely could come up with the money for the conventions yet were expected to attend all the days anyway? Or who had to except hand me down clothing for thier kids? I knew of some who couldn't afford health insurance or groceries - many of these my hubby and I gave anonymous donations to by slipping envelopes into their briefcases so as not to embarrass them but did you ever hear of the society helping them? NO! There were no provisions at all for these poor souls, and yet the society will tell you that they are better than all the other churches??? Give me a break! Lilly

wow, titties! (I'm guessing that's what the TTS stands for) that's really great you can open up a little to your father. I only wish I had someone with a brain in my family.

Thank you Lovely, I am a Catholic now, I see and am apart of the good the church does. In fact once a year they print out the church accounting, I remember last year the list included a new air cond, fixing parking lot, repair the seating, they listed totals given by donation and spent church improvements, money for schools, and etc. I would love to see the JW's do that! I never feel bad giving my money to the church because they do so much wonderful work especially to the homeless and poor.

    Welcome TTS!
Congratulations on the success with your father! Yaaaay!!

And to add to the comments about charities.
I think its important for the ex witness to be involved in some form of charity.
It will really make you happy and give you confidence in humanity.

I never really understood why we tried to "show concern for the poor" by handing them tracts but...how can we convert them if we don't even give them something to eat?
The justification always went something like this: "There's no sense in painting a sinking ship or putting a chandelier in a building that's about to be demolished."
So that means you can't help somebody out? If times are tough for you, you'd better hope you know somebody in a more loving congregation than most. Otherwise you're SOL.
