I think it all comes down to the price you pay for having more materially than others.

I think, in the end, those people are pissed off because we live so much better in this country than they do in theirs. It is to their leaders advantage to blame the U.S. for their bad lot in life. If they didn't, the people would start examining the enormously rich ruling class of basically every middle eastern country who just allow their people to subsist or starve to death.

Clever tactic using the opiate of the people and promises of paradise to get people to do the unthinkable.

    It has always been thus.

Can't you just see the oil wealthy of those Arab nations? Do you wonder what their leaders say to the citizens of their country?

    "Let them eat falafel"

It's really no different than "Let them eat cake"

It's really no different that people in this country who have been pushed to their breaking point because while they can't feed thwir children, assholes Like Jim Bakker and Tammy Faye Bakker are buying thier dogs air conditioned dog houses.

    Is it any wonder?

    joel,

I also see the dichotomy of the rich/poor as well as the hypocrisy of government leaders (in all countries, actually). That may be a factor, but those people in those countries have been propagandized in other ways too. Remember, there is religious hatred involved, and there is no reasoning with religious zealouts.

It's not just a class issue. Politicians in this country keep talking about how we are hated because of our "freedom." I can't figure out what these guys are talking about. We are hated for other reasons.

Thank you nytelecom for this brilliant piece of wit. The board content is so much richer lately with your valuable contributions of insults and name calling.

Remember that 2 or 3 hundred years ago the countries of Europe were run exactly like those of Africa, South America and Asia are today. Europe was a mass of feudal states with a few wealthy kings and nobility ruling over millions of serfs and peasants.

What sparked the change there that did not catch on in the rest of the world? Education possibly? As people began to educate themselves and begin to read philosophies such as those of Locke, they began to think differently, differently enough to overthrow the tyrannical governments of Europe and begin to govern themselves.

Perhaps instead of sanctions and nukes???? But now I'm just talking crazy.
