"For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be." ( Matthew 24:38,39 )

"And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly." ( 2 Peter 2:5 )

"For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water. Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished." ( 2 Peter 3:5,6 )

NT believes in and condones the OT story of God drowning the entire population of the earth except Noah and his family.

You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbour and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, Matt 5:43,44 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: 'Love your neighbour as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these." Mark 12:30,31

Do to others as you would have them do to you. "If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' do that. Luke 6:31-33

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." John 13:34,35 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honour one another above yourselves. Romans 12:10

If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. ........ And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

    1 Cor 13

    and many more.

NT believes in and condones LOVE

The man who thinks he knows something does not yet know as he ought to know. 1 Cor 8:2

Aniron: I'm genuinely grateful to you for posting those lovely verses from the NT. When I was in the 'truth', I was a very keen Bible reader, and loved much of what I read. I had a real sense that God was communicating with me through the pages of the Bible, and this thrilled me. Ever since I started these weekly posts I've been hoping that someone would start a weekly thread entitled: 'Scriptures you will hear at the church sermon'. Maybe you'd like to do that?

I notice that part of the passage from 1 Corinthians 13, that you quote, includes the expression, 'Love....always trusts'. I loved the Bible ( Psalm 119:127 ), and always trusted it to be the word of God, in its entirety. For many years, this firm belief kept me blinded to the deep flaws, agonizing ambiguities, absurdities, barbarities ( as above ), failed prophecies and contradictions that it contains. I saw the Bible according to my pre-supposition that it was God's word, and so any criticism of it was dismissed as the unenlightened prejudice of unbelievers, who just didn't, 'get it'. How wrong I was.

"For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be." ( Matthew 24:38,39 )

The Son of man brought water, and many knew not, until they were overcome

"And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly." ( 2 Peter 2:5 )

The Son of man also brought in a flood upon the world of the ungodly

"For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water. Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished." ( 2 Peter 3:5,6 )

Like Peter says "willingly are ignorant"

NT believes in and condones the OT story of God drowning the entire population of the earth except Noah and his family.

Again, I have indeed heard sermons on this subject. It falls under the category of 1) Godhood, 2) Divine providence, 3) Judgement: an inherent right when one is GOD, 4) Death: our days are numbered as physical beings in this reality; we are immortal in spirit and will not pass into non-existence. I am not going to try to explain jusgement nor understand it. Anything eternal is beyond comprehension as is much of our physical universe as well.

Most all Calvary Chapels ( www.calvarychapel.com ) teach through the Scriptures, through the entire Bible, at one service or another, verse by verse, book by book.

We are not afraid to face what may appear to be discrepencies. It may be hard to believe but there are many Christian who do care to learn the truth whatever truth may prove to be. Most mainstream Christian are not interested in protecting God's Word from scrutinity because they have already scrutinized it themselves.

We are not all ignorant followers, but some of us are educated in theology, Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic, Archeology, History and World Religions.

Last semester I took several Biblical classes and we covered each book studied with great depth. We had to research each book's possible author, what most theologians have considered for the last 2000 years about the book, the culture and the meaning of words and if the meaning has changed.

When we studied the minor prophets, 12 alltogether we dealt with some very intense issues. All I can say is, sometimes people need to die. It is so distressing to hear of the crimes against the innocent in the world everyday. Just this week in China 50,000 dogs, peoples pets were massacred in several Chinese towns because three cases of rabies were found.

The pictures of thousands of dogs being beaten to death, taken from their owners arms is just sick. There is a frightening lack of compassion in the evil hearts of some. Children, the elderly, and millions of animals are tortured and suffering everyday someplace in the world. I can't even begin to imagine if it was worse than it is today, what choice did God have? He is damned if He does and damned if He don't.

He may not have to take action again to end this, we are doing a great job of destroying ourselves and the entire planet. The next time God intervenes it may be to be to save us from ourselves. Of course He'll take some flak for that too I'm sure.
