I used to like the gatherings at peoples houses, a lot of the folks were quite good fun. Just a pity now i'm no longer a dub, they don't bother with me.
Did you like the gatherings? Did anything 'odd' happen at any of them?

Some of the elders got a bit tipsy at one and 'stumbled' a whole family of 'interested ones' right out of da troof.
There was a talk about large gatherings and alcoholic beverages about 2 weeks after the event.
"Gatherings........"
JW codeword for party so as not to present the appearance of doing something "worldly" people do......
This is one of the JW terms that's lately been grating on my nerves........
Wife: Let's have a "gathering"?
Me: No, I'd rather have a party!!!!
Some of them were really good fun, but some married jws, especially sisters, took it on themselves to arrange singles parties for the unattached ones in the congrgations, and only invited single brothers and sisters, in equal numbers, and specially selected as being, in their eyes anyway, as compatible.
I went unsuspectingly to several of these parites, and attmpts were made to pair me up with several brothers. Interestingly, I remember the last 3 or 4 I went to while Trev was still a jw, they tried to get us together, and now we're both ex jws we are together. Maybe some jws have the gift of prophecy after all!

The last cong I attended never had gatherings, they were quite boring. The cong I grew up in however had gatherings all the time. Lots of baseball games at the park where two congs would play against each other. Big potlucks, baby showers, wedding showers, house warming parties, trips to amusement parks, trips to the mountains when it snowed, swim parties in the summer. We even use to get together for trips to Mexico to take clothes to the needy. I thought that was pretty much a thing of the past now.
Boring! Boring! Boring! We were normally on edge all night, on our best behaviour. My wife and I like to clown around, etc. I was always worried that my former warped worldly humour would be unleashed in a wholesome setting. However, we were invited to one gathering a few years ago, when some of the snotty nosed brothers wouldn't speak to us, so wifey and I started to make our own entertainment. By the end that evening the snobby brothers thanked us for making them laugh saying " we didn't realised how funny you both are." I told them jerks if they spoken to us more then they'd realised that we like to have a laugh.

Nope ...just the usual. We had a few bible games, sang a few songs from the songbook. If things got slow we could always have an informal WT study. It was really a fun time.....
