I READ ON ANOTHER THREAD THAT THERE ARE 16,900 EMPLOYEES!
I thought they were ALL volunteers.
No need to pay redundancy, boot you out when you're too old or chronically sick or talk to disapproved people.
Employees would have workers rights.
First, they are not employees, they are volunteers. There used to be appx. 3,500 Bethelites in Brooklyn, 1,200 in Patterson, and 1,400 in Wallkill, making a total of about 6,100 for the U.S. Branch only. But these numbers are about 5 years old. From my Bethel sources there has already been close to a thousand let go from the new cutbacks, so it would make it around 5,000. Your estimate of 16,000 worldwide sounds reasonable - I know there was a number in the Proclaimers book or a KM article but I forgot and I'm too lazy to look it up.
thanks everyone for your replies!

This is the rub. According to IRS rules, they really are employees. They receive money, begin and end work according to the directives of the WTS, dress according to their rules, are fed and housed by them.
That is why recently a woman was suing ths Society for worker's comp. for an injury she received while on duty doing business for the Society, that rendered her unable to work, and she now needed income. Needless to say, the Society took the position that she was a volunteer and did was fighting the suit to pay the money.
THAT EXPLAINS WHY THEY HAVE 16,000 `EMPLOYEES'!
it seems many here have short memories. About 2 years ago, when the printing was moved to wallkill. brooklyn bethel sent any were from 500-1000 bethelites home. Now they are sending another 1000 or so home. in mean kicked out on the street. so your talking at least 2000 in the last 4 years. john
