Disassociating oneself

WHAT IF: The elders announce that so-and-so has disassociated themselves from the Borg, and the person who is being disassociated stands up and says, EXCUSE me, I have done NO such thing!

Isn't the religion announcing that a person has disassociated themselves like an employer stating that an employee quit when they didn't have any intent to do so? Isn't that an employers way of getting some technical legal way out of paying severance etc? So isn't that the WT way of avoiding any legal conflict? Is that in itself illegal in some sense? It seems like it should be!

The announcement they use nowadays is "so and so is no longer one of jehovahs witnesses". They don't say whether they've been disfellowshipped or disassociated, so if someone was announced while they were in the meeting, they would have to argue the point later, I would imagine.

I have often wondered this. The announcement today is a general one "That (he) is no longer one of JW's" , but surely they have to be able to prove that to be true. Normally there has been Judicial process and the perp has been informed and either accept it or exhausted the appeal procedure. Or the person has clearly stated that he no longer wants to be known as of J W's ....

What if you have taken a Blood treatment that is on the banned list, but you believe should be a conscience matter? You may still want to be in the congo. Surely you should be given the rights of a judicial hearing? But the rules, as we understand them, say that you may be just announced as a d/a'd person??

If it hasn't happened yet, it surely will.

And don't forget that the rules are subjective to what they deem 'holy'.

Remember this is an internal action by the elders/WTS. To date, the US government has chosen not to interfere with the internal policies of a religious group unless they advocate and practice things against the law such as polygamy, murder, illegal drug dealing, etc. JWs are trained only to recognize what the elders do. If a person is not happy with the decision of the elder body, the WTS is very scruplous about making sure that the elders have given the person an opportunity to appeal (though it may just be a rubber stamping of what happened previously). Many JWs are unaware that they can also appeal to Bethel headquarters; and I have seen some actions by JCs reversed (2).

Standing up in the congregation and verbally saying that the action is not proper will give those attending food for thought but no one is going to jump and and support the person. Every time some disagreed with an elder about remodeling/building decisions from the audience, resulted in the elder being removed. Rule 33: You will not embarrass the elders.

Not that every BOE will do this (they can be a disobedient lot hoping the WTS doesn't find out), that is, they are directed to talk to the person to find out the details unless they have the testimony of 2 eyewitnesses before considering that the person has da'd themselves. But there is less chasing around of the JW in question.

    Other DAing offenses

Joining a church or religious organization

    Joining a military organization

    Joining a political organization

DAing rules were made to benefit the WTS not the individual JW.

Could this be construed as discrimination based on religious beliefs?
