I'll take that LIVER, but hold the BLOOD and the SOUL

You know, the Watchtower blood doctrine is really goofy. In the 1970s, one of the reasons the Society gave for refusal of blood, was that the SOUL is in the blood. See Leviticus. Yet, the JWs fail to realize that your body is nourished by and feeds on your own blood. Your muscles and organs use the blood and your blood permeates every part of your body, including your Liver. Just how JWs can justify taking an organ transplant, like a heart, liver, etc., but still refuse a blood transfusion is beyond me. When the Society published their change to permit organ transplants, it caused a lot of concern among the JWs, even though they used some interesting word-smithing to try and justify the difference. Here is a short article in Scientific American that you may find interesting:

Hey Jim! I remember as a child, probably 10-12 years old thinking something similar. I used to wonder how in good conscience anyone could have a transplant seeing it would have blood on it, in it. As a child I wondered "well, if they rinse the organ off in water is it okay then?"

How twisted we had to reason to make anything acceptable!

I remember asking an elder once why it's OK to eat lobster when it being cooked alive means it still has blood in it.

He said that there wasn't enough blood in a lobster to matter.

Needless to say he was a big seafood fan.
