minimus started a thread about people counseling a CO and if they ?dared? to do it. Well hell ? why should they not? Are they above counsel? Jehovah counseled Abraham to listen to his wife

Genesis 21:9-12 9 And Sarah kept noticing the son of Ha´gar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, poking fun. 10 So she began to say to Abraham: ?Drive out this slave girl and her son, for the son of this slave girl is not going to be an heir with my son, with Isaac!? 11 But the thing proved to be very displeasing to Abraham as regards his son. 12 Then God said to Abraham: ?Do not let anything that Sarah keeps saying to you be displeasing to you about the boy and about your slave girl. Listen to her voice, because it is by means of Isaac that what will be called your seed will be.

Jesus was shepherded by an angel ? someone who had ?less status? than him ? so surely an elder can shepherd a CO ? it does not need a DO .

Luke 22:42-43 . . .: ?Father, if you wish, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, let, not my will, but yours take place.? 43 Then an angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. . .

Jehovah sent a prophet to counsel a King -

2 Samuel 7:1-3 7 And it came about that, when the king dwelt in his own house and Jehovah himself had given him rest from all his enemies round about, 2 then the king said to Nathan the prophet: ?See, now, I am dwelling in a house of cedars while the ark of the [true] God is dwelling in the middle of tent cloths.? 3 Upon that Nathan said to the king: ?Everything that is in your heart?go, do, because Jehovah is with you.?

2 Samuel 12:1-6 . . .And Jehovah proceeded to send Nathan to David.

I think provided something is solidly backed by scripture or organizational letter/Precedent, there is no reason why somebody should not counsel a CO or DO as long as it is respectful. If they react in a bad way, it is they that have the problem or the bad attitude

    I totally agree.

One time we had one in tears at an elders meeting because he was so arrogant. After that he said that the visit to our hall was his favorite in the circuit.

Another time at an elders meeting I sailed into a DO counseling us for having 'worldly friends' that we might entertain, or take to a meal. He made fun of anyone that would do it, saying, "Jehovah's Witnesses do not have "worldly friends".

I alone laid into him with vehemence. I told him that if all I did was travel around in a 5th Wheeler and park at Kingdom Halls and had the brothers handing me all the money I needed that I would agree with him. I said that some of us did not live off the brotherhood and had to work for a living and sometimes this involved entertaining.

He got mad, and wouldn't use me for the memorial prayer as I was assigned that year.

He did tone down, but he was hot.

In the real JW world would this really be possible?

I just remember the co/do were worshiped by the bretheren as extensions of the GB. This has also been proven a few months ago by my mother worshiping a 30 year old CO by shunning me according to his directions.

Infact, I witnessed a DO at a family dinner table along with my husband exhibiting very innapropriate behaivor with one of my relatives. Parents knew of this behaivor and it was tolerated due to his "Title" and the prospect of a daughter marrying an esteemed member of the Society.

As if they don't have idol worship. What a damn joke.

In theory, Stilla is perfectly correct. In practise it would only be done by someone young and naive [who would receive a dressing down], or an elder who was old, respected in the congo and going nowhere anyway .

Have I done it ? No. Have I heard of it ? Yes, by the kind of older elder that I described . Whenever I (or my wife) have clashed with a c/o it has led to a standoff with no result either side.

Come on, this is a Human organization. Have you ever tried to give advice to the CEO of your company, or a senior Police Officer? Lets get real in our expectations!

I told one CO during his 3 1/2 hour visit to my porch that if the society wanted to simplify they could drop the CO health insurance. There are many brothers and sisters who are working poorly paying jobs and have NO insurance. They are encouraged? to contribute to the CO fund time and time again. He changed the subject very quickly.

Good point, no one is above counsel. There are repeated examples in the bible of people being publically counselled.

I once wrote an annonymous letter (yes gutless) to Bethel about our CO that consisently went 1/2 hour over time in his talks.
