The three F's

There was a program on yesterday evening on Four Corners, Australia's leading public current affairs program.

It was on the Exclusive Bretheren, a group very similar to the jws; fundamentalist, literalist, authoritative, family splitting, assisting to deny shunned partners any child custody etc. etc.

The group is smaller, and on that basis I think able to maintain more strictness.

Those who left had a saying for what keeps others in - the three F's - fear, family, finances

    Hey A Paduan,

I watched that programme too. The familiarity was upsetting. They claim to have no political dealings, hold a condescending view of higher education (like JWs too some of their youths have defied this rule), practice excommunication (theirs is called "dead separation" or being "withdrawn from"), employ that same slick lingo when in public spotlight e.g. "no one is compelled to associate with the Exclusive Brethren....members do it of their own volition..." etc.

Exculsive Brethren are different though. Wasn't it shocking how their members are absolutely uninhibited about their use of swear words on TV? They forbid contraception, forbid radio and TV, seem to assist members with finances (JWs don't necessarily), forbid keeping of pets (in the past??), command sexual abstinence between married couples as a form of discipline, forcibly remove women and children from the homes of former members .

Amazing how they also had a drinker for a leader while they were developing, in the same sort of time frame, and period

You're comparing with Rutherford? Do we know for sure that he had a drinking problem? I've always thought that was merely speculation.
