Has the WTS unofficially removed the U.N. from it's doctrine?

Does anyone know if the WTS has mentioned the United Nations in any of it's magazines aside from the Kingdom News publication? I get thefeeling that the WTS has done a complete turn around on this matter and left all the J-Dubs out of the loop.

As it is, there is absolutely NO sign that the U.N. is trying to destroy religions anywhere in the world. I can't imagine the U.N. ever taking a stand against radical Islam much less the WTS. Who would want to spend the money (and bullets) to get rid of a religion like the JWs who don't even have a political presence? They don't even represent 1% of the global population!

You make a valid point. My wife and I have both noticed the absence of any UN content.

Kingdom News No. 37 does indirectly refer to the UN as the scarlet colored beast.

On page 3, 3rd paragraph, "The beast that the harlot rides pictures the world's political powers.*

*Footnote: For a detailed explanation of this subject, see the book Revelation--Its Grand Climax At Hand! published by Jehovah's Witnesses.

The following are references to the UN in the Revelation book. As far as I know, none of the 70 updates eliminate these comments.

The UN, then, is actually a revival of the scarlet-colored wild beast. Its membership of over 150 nations far exceeds that of the League’s 63; it has also taken on broader responsibilities than its predecessor.

It is not the nations alone, as represented by the ten horns, that destroy the great harlot, but "the wild beast," meaning the UN itself, joins them in this rampage. It will give its sanction to the destruction of false religion. A majority of the 150-and-more nations within the UN have already displayed, by their voting pattern, a hostility toward religion, especially that of Christendom.

Yes, the nations will use the scarlet-colored wild beast, the United Nations, in destroying Babylon the Great. They do not act on their own initiative, for Jehovah puts it into their hearts "even to carry out their one thought by giving their kingdom to the wild beast." When the time comes, the nations will evidently see the need to strengthen the United Nations. They will give it teeth, as it were, lending it whatever authority and power they possess so that it can turn upon false religion and fight successfully against her "until the words of God will have been accomplished." Thus, the ancient harlot will come to her complete end. And good riddance to her!

Otherwise, the WTS seesaws between the UN and saying "political powers" within the UN, thus covering all the bases.

Soon, Jehovah will move the world’s political elements to unite in efforts to expose and devastate the spiritual harlot Babylon the Great. (Revelation 17:15-17; 18:21)

Likewise today, Bible prophecy indicates that militarized powers within the United Nations will see religion as a disturbing element and will act to destroy modern-day Jerusalem—Christendom—as well as the rest of Babylon the Great. (Revelation 17:12-17) Yes, the entire world empire of false religion stands on the brink of destruction.

First, the kings of the earth (the political part of Satan’s organization) will turn on the supporters of Babylon the Great (the religious part) and will destroy them. (Revelation 17:1, 15-18)

That will be when "the ten horns" and "the wild beast" make Babylon the Great devastated and naked. (Revelation 17:16)

Before that happens, though, the earth must be rid of God-dishonoring false religion. The political elements of this world will take care of this. (Revelation 17:15-18)

Details supplied in the prophecy help us to identify this symbolic beast as a peace organization that came into existence in 1919 as the League of Nations (a "disgusting thing") and that is now the United Nations. Revelation 17:16, 17 shows that God will yet put it into the hearts of certain human rulers who are prominent in this "beast" to desolate the world empire of false religion. That attack marks the outbreak of the great tribulation.

    ***w995/1p.18par.17"LettheReaderUseDiscernment"***

When the "scarlet-colored wild beast" attacks the religious harlot, "the disgusting thing" will be standing in a menacing way in Christendom’s so-called holy place.

These judgments will be executed, first against false religion ("Babylon the Great"), then against the ungodly political systems, symbolized by wild beasts.—Revelation 13:1, 2; 17:5-7, 15, 16.

At the beginning of the great tribulation, the rulers will turn against Babylon the Great, the world empire of false religion, and will annihilate her. (Matthew 24:21; Revelation 17:15, 16)

    ***ip-2chap.18p.269par.16JehovahRevivestheSpiritoftheLowlyOnes***

Along with the rest of "Babylon the Great"—the world conglomerate of false religion—Christendom will be annihilated. The symbolic scarlet-colored wild beast and its ten horns "will make [Babylon the Great] devastated and naked, and will eat up her fleshy parts and will completely burn her with fire." (Revelation 17:3, 16, 17)

In place of these, they may well seek refuge and protection in nonspiritual, earthly organizations, perhaps including the United Nations, the "scarlet-colored wild beast" of Revelation chapter 17. It is "the ten horns" of that symbolic wild beast that will destroy Babylon the Great, the world empire of false religion, of which Christendom is a significant part.—Revelation 17:3, 8-12, 16, 17.

    ***ip-1chap.12p.153par.20DoNotBeAfraidoftheAssyrian***

Whom will Jehovah use to discipline rebellious Christendom? We find the answer in the 17th chapter of Revelation. There we are introduced to a harlot, "Babylon the Great," representing all the world’s false religions, including Christendom. The harlot is riding a scarlet-colored wild beast that has seven heads and ten horns. (Revelation 17:3, 5, 7-12) The wild beast represents the United Nations organization. Just as the ancient Assyrian destroyed Samaria, the scarlet-colored wild beast "will hate the harlot and will make her devastated and naked, and will eat up her fleshy parts and will completely burn her with fire." (Revelation 17:16) Thus the modern-day Assyrian (nations associated with the UN) will deal Christendom a mighty blow and will crush her out of existence.

    ***ip-1chap.26p.345par.7"NoResidentWillSay:‘IAmSick’"***

Just as Jehovah used Assyria as a "rod" to punish Israel, so he will use a "rod" to punish Christendom—as well as the rest of the world empire of false religion, "Babylon the Great." (Isaiah 10:5; Revelation 18:2-8) That "rod" will be member nations of the United Nations—an organization pictured in Revelation as a seven-headed, ten-horned, scarlet-colored wild beast.—Revelation 17:3, 15-17.

    ***dpchap.16p.282par.24TheContendingKingsNearTheirEnd***

The destruction of Babylon the Great is graphically described in the book of Revelation, which states: "The ten horns that you saw [the kings ruling in the time of the end], and the wild beast [the United Nations], these will hate the harlot and will make her devastated and naked, and will eat up her fleshy parts and will completely burn her with fire." (Revelation 17:16) Why will the rulers destroy Babylon the Great? Because ‘God puts it into their hearts to carry out his thought.’ (Revelation 17:17)
