The Watchtower Society claims that every word of their literature is carefully scrutinized before it is fed to their flock. This would indicate that the use of "Medicine Water", to drive away evil spirits from a person or place, or lying to house-holders to gain converts is not only condoned, but honored enough for this experience to be included in their most cherished feeding tool, the Watchtower. Please note these points: 1. The JW in this experience wants her sister to become a servant of "The Theocracy"and mentions nothing about being a servant of God. 2. The JW wrote a letter to the brothers to see if they could call on her sister but their efforts were unsuccessful. 3. The JW learns of the superstitious belief her sister has concerning a (juju or evil spirit), in her house. 4. This juju becomes more than a superstition because it is sending messages to her sister. 5. The JW takes ordinary water and puts it in a bottle. 6. The JW then claims she has some very powerful medicine called "Juju Driver". 7. The JW claims that since she has been in the house the spell of the juju is broken. 8. The JW then tells her sister to drink the water and put it on her body three times. 9. The powerful "medicine water" then becomes the "water of truth"! 10. So now, the "water of truth" is not really coming from Jehovah as previously taught, it is nothing more than Nigerian tap water! Was the house-holder or the JWs sister in this experience deceived? Yes! Didn't she believe what her JW sister had told her about this "medicine water", and that it was powerful enough to drive away the juju? Wasn't the house-holder told to put the "medicine water" on "her body" or "practice" this ritual to protect her from this juju?? The Watchtower Society described the heading over this experience as: "Be Ye Therefore WISE as Serpents! Using ritualistic "medicine water" and lying to house-holders to gain converts, is just not my picture of the message Jesus taught his followers to follow. More than once the facts have been shown that deception is glorified by the Watchtower when it should be condemned. Isn't it the Watchtower Society who claims to live and practice "higher" standards? Examples like this one, only prove that the Watchtower is no better than the world, and in fact, they prove that they are worse! Watchtower-1950-May-15-p.160 “BE YE THEREFORE WISE AS SERPENTS” “I have an elder sister to whom I have always been very attached, and since coming to a knowledge of the truth I have greatly desired my sister to share the same privilege of being a servant of The Theocracy. I wrote a letter to the brethren in the town where she lives, asking them to call and witness to her, but all their efforts were fruitless. At last I decided to make a visit myself. The main stumblingblock appeared to be her superstitious belief in the power of a certain juju in her house. She believed that should she eat any food made from cassaver, including the native food called gari, or listen to any message other than that received from this juju, she would die. “Understanding the African’s superstitious belief in the power of medicine, I approached the problem in the following manner: I took some ordinary water and put it in a bottle. When I reached the house she told me that she understood I had now joined the ‘Armageddon’ company and that other ‘Armageddon’ people had been calling on her, but she could not agree with them as she had a powerful juju. I then told her that for her good I had obtained some very powerful medicine known as ‘Juju Driver’, and that even since I had been in the house the power of her juju had been broken. I then produced the bottle and told her to drink some and also to rub some on her body, after which she would be able to eat gari without any danger of death, because the juju had already run away. “At first she was still afraid to eat the gari, but after more encouragement she took some, particularly after she watched me eat some. I made her repeat the same thing the next day and again the third day. By now she was convinced that the power of the juju had really been broken, so she asked how I had managed to get such powerful medicine. I told her to get her Bible, and we started reading some passages together. For three days we studied together, and then I told her about the water in the bottle and how the real ‘Juju Driver’ was the water of truth. She laughed and said that God did indeed move in mysterious ways. By the time I left she was attending the company studies and sharing in the service.”—Nigeria publisher. Cheers! Atlantis-

Thanks for this informative and very interesting post, Big A, as you said, the WTS has a weakness for exploiting the more folklorish attitudes of its future converts than is absolutely necessary. In fact it is clear to us who have been in a long time, that this exploitation is indeed endemic to their recruiting technique.
There is a realization among many of us who were former "inmates" of this loony-toon world, that the WTS is the sum of of several competing ironies that are simultaneously contradictory as they are base. For instance, they profess to uphold a system of belief which hinges on a total belief in the true God of the Bible, maintaining this charade with copious references to "pagan influences" that others have supposedly adopted, yet they themselves indulge in practices that would have seen them stoned for demonic activity in OT times.
That article you quoted from was an item which appeared in the 50s, when Freddy Flintstone Franz was at his peak. This was the time when he was quoting with great frequency, and obvious relish, his little mate, Johannes Greber, knowing full well at that time he was an occult enthusiast. If Freddy could have approved of a demonist like Greber, it is only a short step to being one himself. I'm always suspicious when the WTS claims to have "new light flashing UP" because it clearly outlines to me the direction from which that "light" originated - from the depths of the unclean.
Unfortunately I do not have the particular WT with me, but my notes tell me that this quaint expression occurs in the Feb 15 WT of 1984, page 11, para 6.
In the 50s, incidently, I was privileged to live in India, and I personally knew of many Gilead missionaries who encouraged their newer converts, when under a perceived demonic attack, to wave the WT magazine aloft, particularly with the cover which had the ju-ju word "jehover" on it, to ensure the warding off of such attacks. At various meetings, many claimed sucess while recounting "experiences" of this, and were hansomely applauded. That this was a contradiction of Lu 9:49, did'nt seem to bother them

heheheh!!! I laughed at this one.
obtained some very powerful medicine known as ‘Juju Driver’
Is this anything like my Lexmark Printer Driver . . .? Because I have a psychic printer. It "placed" light green light around my heart when I was producing some business cards. Just wondering . . . Best printer I ever had. Had it for four years, works like a charm. What do you suppose the jws would think of my psychic printer?

Thank you both for your comments! The article did catch my eye because it sounded a little "Witch-doctor-ish' to me. Just right for encouraging the JWs. Why? Because they feel they have the 'power-of-Jah' protecting them at all times, and many of them actually dare death in the face! Some of them feel that they have the power to make the demons shutter. What a laugh!

Not long ago, my mom told me my place was "demonized". She used to live here. She is convinced if you say, "jehovah" it will scare off the demons. Or if there is something around with that name on it. All I could do was laugh at her.
