I have posted the question "Why can't Jehovah's Witnesses donate blood?" and then discussed that they can use blood fractions at http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AvkB_y7J3l_kS6SdPuo7674jzKIX?qid=20061017004319AAg97HV

I recommend people from here spend some time answering the questions on Yahoo Answers. If you go to the search box and click on the 'advanced' button you can search questions that are not closed and add comments. The keyword Jehovah comes up with new questions almost daily.

There is a person called Achtung that answers almost every question with references from the WTS website. His professional answers make me feel he is from the Bethel writing department. There are very few exJWs answering, but quite a lot of worldly people saying they like JWs but hate being hassled by them, and think of them as a brainwashed sect.

Much like any other part of the Internet that Witnesses use (see: the Witness portions of Wikipedia), Yahoo! Answers is a toxic cesspool of misinformation, personal insults, flamewars, recriminations, justifications, rationalizations, and outright lies. I hate it. I find it so upsetting and disturbing to contribute there.

    However, YMMV.

Achtung claims that most blood fractions are not made from blood.

Another JW has made the claim that a JW could donate blood if guaranteed that it would only be used to produce blood fractions. This has never been stated in a Watchtower, the policy is strictly that blood must be poured out on the ground.

It would be good if someone could clarify these JW stated falsehoods. Unfortunately I imagine are myths that will start circulating the congregations as support for their current illogical stance on blood.

Achtung is either a liar or a fool. A few blood proteins that are typically administered in extremely small amounts are produced recombinantly. (e.g. insulin, erythropoietin, common antivenins) Even these however are often administered in a solution containing human albumin as an excipient. This is definitely the case with erythropoietin as any HLC member will admit, when pressed.

Blood proteins that are typically administered as transfusions (i.e. In 500ml units) such as albumin for burn victims or human immune globulin in the treatment of idiopathic thrombocytopenia or Kawasaki's syndrome are not produced recombinantly; the cost is still extremely prohibitive.
