Abortion=Murder?

    Hello

    I recently heard through my still attending Bro in law that a young couple had recently confessed to having an abortion. They were not disfellowshipped. Now if abortion equals murder then this was a case of premeditated murder of an unborn foetus. If I confessed to the elders to prior premeditated planning of the killing of for example an elderly gentleman in my street and then saying after the event that I was sorry would they say that 's fine as long as repentance is shown. I'm not looking for a discussion of the for's and against of abortion. However in JW land abortion = murder so would they say the same for a murderer as an abortionist?

    Thanks

    i think they would accept a murderers repentance....there are after all plenty of biblical precedents...but i think if it wasnt known yet they would encourage the murderer to confess to authorities ..and take the punishment (unlike the more damaging child abuse..sic)

    the abortion may not have been that premeditated ..it could have been the result of momentary lapse of reason...and the parents will have to suffer the emotional effects of that ...and may well be devestated by what they/she has done

    sounds like a rare case of understanding non punishment oriented elders

    Equating abortion to murder is like equating a miscarriage to "manslaughter".

    Please remember I'm not likening abortion to murder. But I think Jw's officially do. Am I correct?

    If you follow their reasoning to its (il)logical conclusion, then yes, they should hold someone who had an abortion in the same light as a murderer. Yet I remember reading a post not too long ago that said JWs don't have funerals for miscarried fetuses and that they teach such fetuses will not be resurrected. I think their policy is more about controlling women than any concern about the rights of the unborn.

    I thought there was a case in FL of a guy (newbie) who did admit to murder to the elders and was not df'd for it but they had more of a problem with him being a pot smoker and did not encourage him to go to authorities. If I can remember where the story was published I will post it.
