Voting today

Well election day this year seemed to have a heavy turnout. They had new voting machines and the process seemed to take much longer than usual. The language in many of these issues seems so obscure, you would think they would put ballot language in the common mans terms, instead of alot of legalese. The local TV station was there and interviewing people. By the time I got through voting, they had already left. I am a Republican, but voted for Harold Ford, they have painted him so much as an outsider from DC, it started ticking me off. I have felt like an outsider most of my life, so I could relate to him.

As for the governors race, I voted for an independent, Carl "2 feathers" Whitaker, an Indian. Why I voted for him, who knows? I met him once before at a local fair, and he was an activist working to stop the road widening project just south of here in Townsend. Townsend is the more peaceful side of the Smokies, more laid back, and that was what he was fighting for a few years ago. He did alot of picketing back then for his cause, and I felt like he was the little guy trying to fight against corporate interests and highway contractors.

I voted for the current republican congressman.

To sum it up, I basically voted across party lines. Darin says im just a disillusioned voter, Mom laughed and said you sure have a funny way of voting for people. Mom wanted me to vote for Harold Ford(D) Darin wanted me to vote for Bob Corker(R). Another thing that ticked me off about Bob Corker was he was busted for hiring illegal aliens. When I first moved here to Tennessee, Amanda and I both had trouble finding a job, even though we were applying for work in a tourist area with lots of jobs.

The employers and managers over there were griping on TV that they couldnt find enough people to work, and said they have been forced to hire illegal immigrants. I knew that was bull, because if they were more pro-active they would be able to find plenty of help. This is one reason why I voted against the republican candidate for governor.

I guess im just a pissed off voter, but you know what? for all its flaws and flawed candidates I will say that Im truly thankful that I now have the right to vote, and no government, political organization, or religious cult can stop me.

    God Bless America,

    Dave

Good for you, Dave! I voted, too, although I am not as enthused about voting as I used to be, when it was a novel sort of thing. I've been doing it ever since I was old enough to vote because I left the JWs before that. It really scandalized my JW family when I went around campaigning for a Congressional candidate years ago. They're such bizarre people, the JWs, for not voting. People died for the right to vote. Maybe we don't have that many choices, but given the opportunity to choose even the lesser of two evils, wise people vote. I don't think the JWs have taken the wise or the free path. It is a very oppressive organization that tries to prevent its members even from political participation in a democracy. I'm glad to be free of that, too, Dave; glad you're free of it too, even if you are a Republican.

Did that and voted for all of the one not in office right now. I figure it will take a new guy at least six weeks to figure out how to screw us.

Thanks Madame Quixote, even though im a reublican-LOL

Yeah youre right Skyking, it will probably take them awhile to figure out how to stick it to us again. Dont be surprised if gas prices start rising again, be them democrat or republican.

Did my civic duty. Too many from Wisconsin here to post who I voted for 'cause I don't want to get into a match. lol

One of the referendums though was terribly worded. It dealt w/giving gays/lesbians the legal rights as the rest of us. Did not have to do w/marriage though it was called the "Marriage Law" amendment.

I only learned more about it because my Dr. is gay and explained it. Made sense. Why shouldn't everyone have the same legal rights?

I always preferred Democrats more. Looking back over the last few decades I’m starting to wonder why it is that most wars have been initiated under Republican governments. I think we had enough of warmongering for the next 100 years at least. Let’s just hope this shit in Iraq turns out all right. This world needs stronger economy and not gun wielding saviors.

Didn't Republican learn anything from old Rome. Give people bread and entertainment, strengthen economy, build roads … No Cesar would go into the war that would endanger existence of Roman Empire as the world power.

Voting is one of the things that I cherish for many reasons; one is that always reminds me that I ain't a Jehobie any more! Wahoo!

I love the USA! I love that I get to live and rear my kiddos in such a great country!

    Go GOP!
