Well election day this year seemed to have a heavy turnout. They had new voting machines and the process seemed to take much longer than usual. The language in many of these issues seems so obscure, you would think they would put ballot language in the common mans terms, instead of alot of legalese. The local TV station was there and interviewing people. By the time I got through voting, they had already left. I am a Republican, but voted for Harold Ford, they have painted him so much as an outsider from DC, it started ticking me off. I have felt like an outsider most of my life, so I could relate to him.
As for the governors race, I voted for an independent, Carl "2 feathers" Whitaker, an Indian. Why I voted for him, who knows? I met him once before at a local fair, and he was an activist working to stop the road widening project just south of here in Townsend. Townsend is the more peaceful side of the Smokies, more laid back, and that was what he was fighting for a few years ago. He did alot of picketing back then for his cause, and I felt like he was the little guy trying to fight against corporate interests and highway contractors.
I voted for the current republican congressman.
To sum it up, I basically voted across party lines. Darin says im just a disillusioned voter, Mom laughed and said you sure have a funny way of voting for people. Mom wanted me to vote for Harold Ford(D) Darin wanted me to vote for Bob Corker(R). Another thing that ticked me off about Bob Corker was he was busted for hiring illegal aliens. When I first moved here to Tennessee, Amanda and I both had trouble finding a job, even though we were applying for work in a tourist area with lots of jobs.
The employers and managers over there were griping on TV that they couldnt find enough people to work, and said they have been forced to hire illegal immigrants. I knew that was bull, because if they were more pro-active they would be able to find plenty of help. This is one reason why I voted against the republican candidate for governor.
I guess im just a pissed off voter, but you know what? for all its flaws and flawed candidates I will say that Im truly thankful that I now have the right to vote, and no government, political organization, or religious cult can stop me.
God Bless America,
Dave
