The things that were spoken about

Often times, I wonder whether or not anyone
ever heard of something unusual when you
    were an active Jehovah's Witness.

Unusual,in the sense that it was not in line
    with Watchtower traditions.

    Crisis of Conscience

In Ray Franz book Crisis of Conscience, he
mentions that 3 members of the governing
body suggested changing the start of this
"generation" to the year 1957 (pg. 261).

    What about you?

When you were an active Witness did
you ever hear, witness, or see any-
thing that was not in keeping with
    Watchtower ideologies?

Please post your comments for a
    lively discussion of the matter.

I led a pretty sheltered JW life, I gather, since I never saw much. The biggest thing I saw along these lines was a brother in the hall that grew a beard, but kept giving talks on the school. The presiding overseer and I were out in service one day and he brought it up. He said some of the others in the congregation had asked him why Mike was allowed to give talks while sporting a beard. He said, "I asked them to open the Bible and show me where it says 'thou shalt not have a beard'."

I always liked that guy! (And Mike too, who worked in a cold environment and grew a beard every year to keep his face warm.)

Towards the end of my Witness "career" I
sported a beard as well. Basically, to
show that I no longer cared about what
    others thought.

It was kind of embarrasing though when
it was pointed out by the circuit over-
    seer during a circuit assembly.

What LOVING correction you received from that "fine shepherd"! *roll eyes*

Those folks need to get a life -- like we did!

We were always told to be modest in dress and grooming, but in the mid to late 1990's, a lot of young brothers had their hair very close cropped or even had their heads shaved, but nothing was said to them. That may have been because som of the "culprits" were elders sons. However, another brother grew a beard while on holiday, and was told that unless he shaved it off, he wouldn't be allowed to have a part in any of the meetings, and would be denied all privileges. Needless to say, he didn't have an elder father.
